Sadly many artists end their lives in psychiatric hospitals .
The most well known being Vincent Van Gogh but he is far from alone .
Sometimes artistic brilliance comes with a price .

My favourite is his fishing cat as this puss does not get it’s feet wet and with a bucketful, no going home empty pawed

Also many used to die as a pauper and in relative terms not much has changed.

I have a lovely old Louis Wain print in original frame which my late Dad said used to hang in their bedroom when they were kids and it scared him to death!! He was born in 1921 so it is older than that for sure. It is entitled “For What we are about to Receive” and shows 10 cats sitting at a table with a big worm pie in front of them with the worms crawling out of the pastry. The background is very dark and gloomy and the cats look very scary.

I am definitely not a fan of pictures of anthropomorphized animals I think they are bloody awful but that is just me. One of my aunts had a print of the painting of dogs playing poker which is equally appalling, she loved it.
