The Barty Party Over? Ash Barty Retires

Shock news today Ash Barty has announced her retirement from professional tennis, at least she is retiring at the top of her game. I think she is only about 25 years old.

She was one of those talented sportswomen that had to make a choice as to which sport to pursue (like Ellyse Perry) and chose tennis otherwise she could be playing cricket for Australia.

Personally I have little interest in sport but she is a lovely girl and, like Cathy Freeman, such a good ambassador for her sport and country.

Today she gave a press conference outlining her reasons for retiring.

She also has a wedding to plan with her fiance golfer Garry Kissick

I think she’s wise beyond her years and a great personality, I wish some of my trainees had some of her straightforwardness and resilience!

It’s always tough to make a life changing decision and change direction

And she has something she knows she’s the best at, it would be easy to just keep doing it for a while, make more money and linger on

But she’s achieved what she wanted to and she said before the lifestyle was stressful and made her homesick.

She wants give a leg up to indigenous young people in sports and she got her wedding to look forward to
