The 2011/2012 Football Season - Fans Thread

A great season of football, ups and downs all round, now for a good season of Internationals under Roy Hodgson.
I see he has recruited Garry Neville for his skills as a coach I believe after seeing him give good tactical discussions on the TV.
Must admit I have been impressed with his skills, much better than Andy Gray.
See Here

Yep … Exciting season , coming to a close … looking forward to Play-off finals . then onto the Euros … good luck England , hope he picks some one like : Grant Holt or Rickie Lambert .
Hope they dont take Bent (just my opinion) .

I don’t like the idea of someone being in the England setup, and still retaining a position as a TV pundit. How can Neville be critical of a player on Television, yet still have to work with that player in training? Seems a minefield is waiting for Hodgson, what with the Terry/Ferdinand situation, Carroll yes or no, Scholes maybe, injuries to certain players. and worst of all, The Sun newspaper waiting in the wings to rubbish the manager at any opportunity.

I have to agree with you John. Not a good idea for Neville to do both jobs.
As for the Sun, not worth buying.

yes but then there is the money, surely they wont take Scholes… he has retired once.

The Sun … A Newspaper … http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k522/donnydave1/signs/14wzzuu_th.gif

I was going to call it a rag, but being a diplomat, thinking some of our members were Sun readers, I bottled it. Sorry folks!

 thats ok John ,

You are right it is a rag .

I was not even mildly surprised to hear that Kenny Dalglish has been given the elbow by Liverpool FC owners Fenway sports group, it has been on the cards for some weeks now, you can’t live on reputations and past glories and that has never been illustrated better so all those blinkered fans need to come to terms with reality and let the owners bring a new manager in asap. Of course the media will be having a field day, suggesting which lucky person will be next to occupy the hot seat at Anfield plus there is the England set up with Roy Hodgson right in the line of fire, going to be mighty interesting to say the least!
Did somebody say they saw Mourinho on a ferry crossing the Mersey

Yes Bob it was The Special One. Dressed in a shell suit, with a moustache, telling all the Scousers who support Liverpool, to Calm Down! Calm Down! Seriously, there’s talk of Roberto Martinez, but that seems to be a long shot. I expect Fenway will want a really big name. By the way Bob, Sven Goran was also seen on that ferry, gulp!

By the way saw the special one the other day on TV and he no longer deserves the name,he has gone past special, shame he was looking a bit of a fatlad.

Oh dear John, not Sven, the slippery Swede please!!:frowning: also I keep hearing rumours that the Spanish waiter may be tempted back, omg that’s just as bad!
Who next, Mickey Mouse?
It really is going to be rather intriguing over the close season now that John Henry is due to jet in from Boston to supervise things.
Yes Annie, the “special one” really did look a tad bloated when I saw him on tv recently, maybe he needs to go on a special diet

Well you did alright Hammer, glad you are staying up.

Well well, what a weekend! Chelsea did the impossible, beat the Germans in their own backyard. Never seen so many shattered faces, as those on the Munich players. If they don’t give De Matteo the managers job after that, he should go and give Abramovich a kick in the nuts. Wonderful stuff, and well played the Blues.Has anyone seen Lord Lucan, also known as our Hammer? Come out of your hiding place sir, and take a bow. Close game, but the better team won. Talking of shattered faces, poor Olly looked as though he just had his pocket picked. Steve Claridge summed it up well, you come so near, but next season you’re completely back at square one. Its going to be one hellava season next, to cap this one just gone.

My guess is that De Matteo could get offered a good job at the club they beat last night, it was strange how he was missing just after the game.
Don’t forget he is Swiss and he talks fluent German.

I really enjoyed being a ‘neutral’ watching last night’s final and what a turn up for the lads of Chelsea, no doubt about it you can never keep Didier Drogba out of the limelight, he really is a big match player and proved it yet again! Good luck to the Blues when they start to defend their new trophy, now let’s see some quick answers as to who will manage Chelsea next season talking of which there is also the same urgency about a final selection regarding the Liverpool managers job.
Strange not to see a comment from Hammer on this thread, especially in the light of West Ham making a quick return to the top flight, anyway welcome back Big Sam and the team, hope you enjoy a really long stay.

Well I suppose that was adequate. 1-0 against Norway, who did’nt pose much of a problem. Hard to take any positives from the game. Carroll, Bob’ll be glad to see, played well, certainly seemed to have more enthusiasm. You can never take too much from a friendly, so lets see what Belguim have to offer. Glad to see Roy’s off to a winning start. Myself, I’m away tomorrow to Norfolk for a week, be back for the next international.

Just to say John that I have got a thread running about the England team so when you get back (I do hope you have a great time) feel free to join in on the ‘England our England’ thread

So Swansea’s Brendan Rodgers is the new Liverpool boss. Lets see what he can do. I don’t agree with the sacking of Kenny though as I think one season was not giving him a chance to turn things around. If they don’t finish in the top 4 next season what will the owners do sack Brendan as well ? What do you all think.

From a personal viewpoint I think Rodgers might surprise a large amount of detractors and I really hope he does and in the process help to eliminate the blinkered viewpoints of the ‘King Kenny’ brigade. Yes, Brendan Rodgers has a mountain to climb so I amongst others will await his progress with great interest.

Good luck to him!
