Tasty recipe for you

Tuna fish pasties - it is a recipe I had not tried before so, apart from making my own puff pastry, I followed it to the letter. They turned out very well but a bit bland for my taste buds. Next time I will add some spice or a few herbs.

TUNA PASTIES

Ingredients

  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 1/2 cup of corn
  • 1/2 cup of frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp of flour
  • 2 cans of tuna
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of cheese (I used strong cheddar)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • egg wash
  • 240 grams of thawed puff pastry (prefer to make my own)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 F or 200 C.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan. Add in the onion and garlic and saute until fragrant.
  3. Add the flour in and stir until cooked – about 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in the milk half at a time while stirring until the mixture becomes creamy. Turn off the heat.
  5. Put in the corn, peas, cheese, and tuna. Season with salt, pepper, and gently mix until well combined.
  6. Set it aside in a bowl to cool completely.
  7. Flour a surface and place the puff pastry on it. Roll it out until it is about 8 inches by 8 inches. Cut this into 4 by 4 pieces using a dough or pizza cutter.
  8. Place some of the tuna mixture into the centre. Spread it out so it stays about 1/2 an inch from the edge. Lay another piece of pastry over the top and seal it shut with the tip of a fork.
  9. Place the tuna pasties onto a baking tray lined with some parchment paper.
  10. Place them in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  11. Serve and enjoy.

I must admit to not being fond of canned tuna (though I do buy the tiny sandwich tins of chilli tuna). I prefer tuna from the fishmonger you can get four steaks out of a single slice of tuna.

Just cook on the BBQ or in a fry pan though there is not much wiggle room in a fry pan, then just cut out the bone and yum, food for four.

Or you could have called it a “Tuna fish Haggis” he says defending the traditional Cornish pastie. That would upset the Scottish on here

I think I’m more upset that you think Scots don’t have a sense of humour  As an aside, you could try Veggie haggis, its really tasty! :+1:

I do like your recipe Tabby, and I agree with more spices…tuna doesn’t really taste of much. :fish:

I don’t like Tinned Tuna on its own, so I make it a Mexican Tuna.

Tin Tuna (drained), mix in 2 tabs of salad cream, small tin of kidney beans, hot chilli flakes, mix well and serve as a sandwich or on a Jacket potato.

I love tuna, sweetcorn, kidney beans and mayonnaise served on a bed of mixed salad leaves and other salad items. Makes a lovely summer lunch.

That sounds good - will give it a try.

If you don’t like kidney bean, then just use sweetcorn or chilli beans.
