Supermarket Swerving

We mostly use Tesco for our deliveries. So far they have been very helpful and sociable.

We get most of our groceries from Aldi and Home Bargains and they don’t do home deliveries. The little extra we need we get from Tesco.

Absolutely 100% agree Muddy and this is also cconfirmed and supported as beneficial for physical & mental health by multiple recent scientific studies. :slightly_smiling_face:

I used Woolies on line service and delivery once during the pandemic. I wouldn’t use it again. They charge for delivery and for the bags, not entirely deal breakers but they substitute, where if I was shopping for it myself I might not buy at all or choose something else. Anyway I like to walk to the mall and see all the people there. In very hot weather I take a book and sit on one of their sofas or armchairs and enjoy the air con.

Since then both Coles and Woollies have introduced "Click and Collect’ as well as deliveries where you go to a designated parking zone and they bring your shopping to your car. I haven’t tried that because it would take me longer to drive there than walk it.

That is great and it’s possible that they have improved in the 3 years I have avoided them. But I am not willing to take the risk. I was so scared after my experience that I didn’t want to even complain, because of course these people know where you live.

Well, it has worked for us. Not just groceries. It the last hour we have had a 50 kg of special dog food. And, recently, anew bed frame. We usually use Amazon for items like that.

I don’t recognise that Tesco at all Annie, some of the shelf stackers, till operators, and bakers etc in our local store have become very good friends of ours over the years, and because we go early they are busy checking stock and loading shelves, and always have time for a catch up with the gossip. Could there be a geographical reason for the grumpiness? We don’t have to struggle for ‘good mornings’ in Yorkshire…

And sometimes you get back what you give out…

OGF the most exciting things happen in tesco. I once alerted staff to the fact that an armed robbery was going on (to the securicor van collecting their cash).

In terms of social interaction the most interesting (some years ago) was a man sidling up to me while I was looking at some cucumbers and saying (while fondling a parsnip) “vegetables are very interesting don’t you think…?” with a winking leer :grinning:

Reminds me of Blackadder and his aunties turnip

Last Monday, I had a serious discussion about zero alcohol beer and beer in general with the fellow in front of us in the queue. :slight_smile:

Aha - the end of dry January for some…a friend put up an emotional facebook post with a photo of his first beer since NYE the other day. It’s a fact though that non alcohol beer does have a smidgeon of booze

So what did he say after you slapped him Annie?

::rofl::rofl::rofl:………

Funnily enough I had a similar discussion with my daughter’s father in law - he buys zero alcohol beer. Personally I can’t see the point because the average male can metabolise low alcohol beer quicker than he can drink it.

Many years ago, when low alcohol beer first came out, I was at tech collage but was having a few beers during the lunch break, I had drunk three schooners of Tooheys 2.2 when the local cops appeared to demo the new random breath test equipment. Naturally I had a go but was amazed to find my reading was zero (at the time 0.08 was the limit). I told the cop I had drunk three schooners of 2.2 and he told me that it was correct, and that low alcohol beer was fine to drink and drive for the average male.

Actually the 2.2 was bloody awful but since then they have perfected low alcohol beer to the point where I keep some Hahn Light in the fridge for hot, sweaty days where I might have to drive later.
