Up here late night shopping was a Thursday.
My Mum worked in ‘Meadow Dairies’ stuff fresh from the farm.
We don’t shop around much because we get Tesco Points Chilli, but we prefer to buy our meat from a proper village butcher, Tesco meat looks like it gave itself up to be put out of it’s misery!

Yep, it’s pretty grim Foxy, most supermarkets are similar alas! Not many village butchers in easy reach around here, mores the pity…

the name has just come to me, it was Express Dairy that I remember from my childhood days. There was another shop that was similar but I think a little cheaper, trying to remember the name. The only two main food chain stores in our high street. I remember my mum saying Express priced up its butter. Butter was a big thing in our house, lathered on freshly baked danish bloomer from the bakers, now long gone.

Now you mention it Express Dairies does look vaguely familiar. I had to have a quick rummage on Google. If you were really posh the milkman would deliver a bottle (or two) of gold top!

Of course it was on the milk floats! We always had gold top. Any other colour was considered inferior watered down pretend milk. My dad liked the creamy bit on his porridge

Perhaps there is a connection between these two statements? Morrisons was once great but that was 20 plus years ago when old Bill Morrisons ran the entire operations out of a few portacabins near Bradford. They used to have their own farms and I rated their steaks above M&S and Waitrose. Cheaper too. Seems that is no longer the case.
I have not rated Asda for decades. Again, see above statements.
