Normally I buy my bacon from a butcher on the local market. But being at a local supermarket I decided to buy some bacon & bread rolls there earlier. What a mistake.
The bacon was full of water & so thin you could see light through it as I separated the slices. It tasted OK, but, is of such poor quality, that I will not be buying it again.
Yes, that’s happened to me more than once. The bacon leeches water into the pan and shrivels up, all nasty and anemic looking, not very appetising. We aren’t blessed with a local butcher so I sometimes push the boat and pay for the best quality bacon from some supermarkets. Less is most certainly more!
Have you tried cooking it in a hot preheated oven on a decent heavy gauge baking tray?
The beauty of this is that you can sprinkle it with spicy seasoning, garlic powder or whatever takes your fancy. It’s much easier to regulate crispiness!
I had to tip the white water out of the frying pan twice, so that I could fry it, rather than boil it. It cooked half reasonably that way. But it cooked down massively & it was so thin.
Nice one d00d!
I’d all but forgotten that we have a Polish deli in town. We’ll pop in there at the weekend. They sell some really delicious types of bread, might go very well with the bacon!
Hahaha - I loved the bacon and egg pics of Morti like I’ve never seen her before! - what a cool porcine temptress she is!
I don’t eat my porcine friends, but if I ever buy bacon for visiting guests, I always buy that “dry cured” stuff. That is gross enough but the “wet cured” stuff which leaks all that salty water into the grill pan is even more gross
why not love your piggy friends and leave out the bacon - smashed avocado on toast or veggie sausages and mushrooms taste great with poached eggs for breakfast.
