Suella Braverman and homelessness

I think saying homelessness is a lifestyle is wicked and cruel on a par with Thatcherā€™s ā€œno such thing as societyā€ remark

Psychopaths and sadists like them walk among us and sometimes it amuses them to show what they are in plain sight and see who will support them

I think Bruceā€™s link sums her up perfectly

She ā€˜s obviously going for th PM or leader of the opposition role and decided to get there by appealing to the worst of populism and making controversial remarks

Like Katie Hopkins, they take any news story, say the most controversial and unpleasant thing they can think of to get the support of extremists and donā€™t care who gets hurt as long as they get a boost

So well done to Joe Lycett for raising thousands of pounds for homeless charities and showing her up for what she is ā€¦.

Bravermanā€™s proposed policies and style of rhetoric disgust me.
She reminds me of the rabid extremists who lurk in the outer fringes of the political spectrum.
I find it worrying that we have a Home Secretary who sounds more and more like an Extreme Right-Wing Activist every day, as she keeps throwing out these dog whistle Tweet messages on social media to try to curry favour with the more extreme fringe.
I thought Patel was bad enough but Braverman is like Patel on steroids!

An excellent letter to her from Crisis

Itā€™s a coincidence that you mentioned Katie Hopkins because Braverman reminds me of Katie Hopkins too!
In fact, in my last post, I nearly wrote something very similar to what you have written here - but I find it difficult to express the depth of my disgust for people of this ilk.

Katie Hopkins is a comedian, Braverman is not.

Hi

She obviously does not know about the funding cuts.

A residential place for the mentally ill locally has been closed, along with the outreach workers.

There was, until Covid, a drop in in town for the vulnerable, open 7 days a week, Ā£1 a day, unlimited tea and coffee and a lunch.

It had support workers to rehabilitate people.

Closed from the start of Covid, only recently opened and then only for a few hours at weekend.

I have severe PTSD, had loads of support until Covid, now down to 30 mins evety 8 weeks.

I have my own house, but the number of elderly I see on the streets has shot up.

Suella probably meant in her X (formerly twitter) post that instead of accepting your fate, you should get your finger out and do something. I know quite a few people who were left with nothing (usually after a divorce) but did they play the victim? Did they condemn themselves to a life living on the street? Certainly not. But regardless of what Suella said, the media and woke folk just like to be offended and cause a fuss. It also takes the focus away from the discussion of what to do with all the homeless and places it on what a nasty woman Suella isā€¦Well I say ā€œGood on you Suella, Iā€™d vote for you for PM anytimeā€ Somebody with some balls for a changeā€¦

Katie Hopkins styles herself as a political commentator and media personality, not a comedian

If you watch her stuff itā€™s very, very right wing political with an attempt to cover the nasty message with humour

Sheā€™s a troll and publicity whore who says extremely unpleasant controversial things to get hits, likes and followed by the stupid and nasty

Iā€™d say Braverman is also a troll and publicity whore who says extremely unpleasant controversial things but to get votes from the stupid and nasty

There are no words, really, for how contemptible they are. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

My favourite comment about her I read wasā€¦

ā€œBeing homeless isnā€™t a lifestyle choice, but being a **** like you definitely isā€

Hopefully her days are numbered now

Hi

A lot of comment that she wants to get fired so that she is not part of the blame and she can campaign for PM when Rishi gets the push.

Where do you live ?
Itā€™s unusual to see elderly people on the street ie rough sleepers because the life span of rough sleepers is usually short ( average 47 years )

The rough sleepers I see are 18-30, think the streets of London are paved with gold, come down from up north for some fun, armed with a disposable tent.

Hi

Shropshire, if you had read my previous posts you would have seen the reasons why, closure of specialist units and withdrawal of support.

People who are rough sleeping are not always homeless.
They may have serious mental issues or drug/ drink addictions .
I donā€™t think that they should live in tents on the streets .
Itā€™s cold dangerous and unsanitary
The Salvation Army is trying these nap pads
I think they are a good idea but of course they will be more expensive than a tent

Some facts
Nearly half (47%) of all people sleeping rough on a single night in autumn are in London and the South East. Most people sleeping rough in England are male, aged over 26 years old and from the UK.

I live 30 miles from Bristol
They have 58 regular rough sleepers in the city
But they have several shelters , St Mungos being the biggest .
However rough sleepers donā€™t always want to go into shelters because of their complex issues

I like watching Katie Hopkins videos, Johnathan Pie too. Neither should be taken seriously, surely.
