Spring has sprung 2026

After a trying first 7 weeks of 2026 (cold, rain, storms, sodden ground, grey) it has all changed. Bright, bright sunshine and warmth. Easily 24 deg yesterday afternoon, most likely 20+deg each day until Saturday. This is a principle reason to live in the south west of France, rather than north east Scotland where I was born. I noticed that the average peak temperature for Aberdeen in the height of summer is 17 deg and that they’ve had constant rain since Christmas. I still support the Scotland rugby team (promise I won’t gloat over England or Wales) but I now also sing allez les bleus. In the sun.

It was a lovely sunny day in Brighton!
Quite a buzz in the air.
There is more rain forecast but it’s definitely improving :+1::icecream:

It’s far from spring here. We have at least 2 months before we’ll have spring weather. Here’s a picture from today. It was sunny but -1 degrees Celsius.

was so nice being out in the garden, birdies singing, daffs in flower, and another hedgehog released into the garden this evening

Another Spring day, warm sunshine, bright blue skies, 24C.
Only temporary obviously, it’s perfectly normal to have a taste of Spring around this time of year before heading for an often insidious March.
Doesn’t matter, it’s nice to have a break from rain and wind, I’m making the most of it,sitting outside stocking up on some Vitamin D.

First daffodils popped out today too.

It’s been around 10 or 11 degrees C for the last couple of days and Monday was splendid, no wind and the warm sun on my back as I did my walk along the canal towpath.
Strangely never saw a soul for the entire length (mile and a half) of the path. There are usually dog walkers and runners out a plenty.

Nice yesterday but cloudy and a brisk Westerly Breeze that slowed me down quite a bit while biking the last mile or two returning home. The first proper ride of the year and much work to do I think.

Returned to walking today and the skies were heavy and overcast, angry clouds rushed across the sky in a strong westerly but still mild and the rain held off until I was safely indoors.
I did notice some green shoots appearing on some south facing Hawthorns, I’ve noticed in the past that this sheltered little copse seems to always be the first to acknowledge the spring.

You help out hedgehogs? I didn’t know that.

Well it reverted to grotty again here today so I’m well fed up, cheesed off.miserable and grumpy and not fit for human consumption.

about 8 years ago we had a poorly hedgehog in the garden and we took it to our local hedgehog rescue, but mentioned we would have it back when recovered. That happened after about six months, when they saw how big our garden was, with wild areas, they asked if the could release other hogs as and when. To date we have had seven hedgehogs released into our garden, we monitor them with trail cameras and keep them well fed and watered, our bit for wildlife

What a wonderful thing to do … and it must be incredibly rewarding.
Where I Iive there used to be loads of hedgehogs when I was a kid but I’ve only seen one in the last 5 years. Animals have it so tough now.

Forget spring. Today it is cold, grey and wet. Winter is not quite over. Note to self - do not gloat about early warm weather.

Just over four weeks until Easter! :rabbit2:
The weather is improving, just ordered some nice khaki slip on deck shoes to celebrate. Talk about tempting fate! :open_mouth:

Sounds fantastic, would love to live there
