Sound splitter

I am thinking this might be interesting splitting the sound on a stereo microphone using one of these

what it does is

  • This 3.5mm headphone plug to dual XLR stereo audio cable connects a device with a common 3.5mm TRS female port such as iPod, tablet, laptop to a mixer or audio device with XLR jack

  • Dual XLR wires design divides the stereo signal into two mono XLR signals for easy audio adjustment, providing accurate signal output for professional audio needs and reducing distortion and signal loss

so this is the microphone (stereo)

and the panasonic hc-x1500 handle has the sockets on one side the two ports for left and right.( The screw holes above allow for a mic clamp to be fitter, which I have not put on)

and on the other side where the sound can b e adjusted to suit

so should have some fun and learning to do later on using the earphones to check

Of course the camcorder also has an input adjustment s a bar measurement to stgop distortion etc.

The whole setup idea (if it works) is to provide a more professional video

I must admit I’d rather see (and hear) the finished professional video rather than the equipment used to create it.

I would find a thread on paint drying more interesting.:smiley:

Better than sitting down all day playing stupid computer games. Why not live in the real world and get a decent hobby/interest instead?

Funny

Come on RS! Take all this gear out and about the streets of Bexhill on Sea so we can all view the sights and hear the sounds of your town and evaluate the results attainable with all this gear in 4K video and glorious stereo.

Show what it all does.

Bruce I had a bit of not knowing disasters today. Took the grandaughers to the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent so they could go on a train ride . Look it up and you will see why, and had a great time while there.

Now what I didn’t know and not seen mentioned anywhere is as soon as the handle is fitted to the camcorder the microphone has to be connected to those two ports or else no sound. you can’t just use the normal audio lead it don’t work.

THe handle cuts out audio. Just fitting a microphone straight onto the camcorder no problem.
Having had a refund from another product paid for that cable with duel connections and also almost for 2 more Sandisk 128 GB 170mb/s SD cards.

Better to find out now than on an expensive cruise later on in the year so some good has come out of it.
So hopefully the new cable will arrive tomorrow and then I can give an update

RS I don’t need to look up that railway I used to live and work in the area. I lived there from 1954 to 1966 and have been inside the Dymchurch A nuclear reactor (while it was being built). Try not to be so patronising.

Looking forward to your videos of Bexhill

I didn’t know you know the area

Now I have had time to check out the problem was down to me not setting the camcorder handle switches in the correct position. One learns by ones mistakes, but in my defence there are no instructions about that. all it shows is how to attach and showing parts…
using the stereo microphone sounds so much better that the sennheiser directional one. If the deadcat is as good the stereo will be the one i will leave on the camera
