I pulled up in a beach side carpark.
The where a group of 6 male workers standing around the work vehicle.
All 6 where smoking. The stench was overpowering.
I moved my vehicle to be upwind of them.
Really canāt stand the smell of cigarettes. I have never smoked in my life and fail to see what anyone gets out of it. To me, you just as well roll up a Ā£/$ note and set fire to it, to end up poorer and with heath problems later in life. It was such a godsend when legislation came in which banned smoking from buildings.
I remember a time a few years ago when we were in Switzerland and sitting in a restaurant, and some guy lit up as we were eating, as apparently this was legal at the time. Apart from making us feeling sick and nauseous, I had to restrain myself from punching his lights out, as it really was offending me and we never went into another restaurant again.
That was probably a gathering of every smoker living in WA, a smokers convention perhaps?
Less than 8% of Australian adults smoke according to stats.
Like Graham I find people smoking in restaurants in Asia a bit disturbing, here you canāt even smoke in railway stations, near entrances to buildings or even in a private car with a someone under 16.
That is still 2,160,000 people blowing their smoke into peoples faces, noses, mouths.
Have you ever seen those smokers outside buildings, where a sign saying - āno smoking within 5 metersā be pulled up for smoking outside the door?
I was at a hospital once, went past one of those no smoking signs and there were nurses puffing away.
It is never policed from what I have seen.
Maybe they donāt normally smoke, but they are just killing time, nothing else to do, the one with the smokes insisted and the others were to polite to refuse.
Smokers are as rare as open cars, rarely see them, might see one or two smokers a day. However there are two tobacconists in my suburb but I think smokers carry on their addiction behind closed doors
I have seen security move a smoker away from the doors of the mall on one occasion, they have provided a bench and an ashtray well away from the doors though you rarely see anybody using them.
It is quite a surprise to smell tobacco smoke when I am out.
I used to be a smoker but havenāt smoked for around 38 years. Seeing smokers is rare but I donāt know how people who do can afford it these days. Iām never upset by being near a smoker and never tempted to go back to smoking either.
I used to be a smoker; I quit (cold turkey) as soon as I hit 35 years old; and I am now 56 years old. There are times where I get a craving for one but, I donāt touch one. As for vaping (no thanks) in my opinion; thatās not really smoking so, I wonāt bother doing that. Also, I never smoked a joint; canāt stand the smell (yuck)
Plenty of young people here vape , I saw on news lots bad chemicals
I rarely see people smoking these days. Plenty people vaping though.
I quit smoking in 2007 cold turkey, was easy because I was ready to quit.
I donāt miss smoking at all and on the odd occasion I do smell smoke it stinks vile. I think oh hell, did I used to smell like that!
Apart from finding the smell awful I really donāt mind other people smoking, itās their choice, their life. I just move away and get on with my day.
I was just enjoying a fag after a 13 mile training run and out of the blue just collapsed with a heart attackā¦
That was in 2004 and it was my last ever cigaretteā¦
I donāt mind the smell of smoke, but not while Iām eating or in a confined space, but that rarely happens these days. It might just be a whiff of smoke when I pass some smokers outside.
If they donāt mind my garlic breath or smelly flatulence, then I donāt mind them having a fagā¦
Many years ago I used to smoke . I stopped because I had a bad cold for a few days, so didnāt go near a cigarette. Getting better I thought to myself, if I have stopped for the last few days lets try for another week, this went on for month after month and the withdrawal symptoms were hell. Looking back on those days I would say to get it right out of my system so as not to even think about smoking took around 3 years
yes I went cold turkey as he saying goes . Only sheer stubborness stopped me for taking the habit up again
I have never smoked but know plenty who had no choice but to go cold turkey know not easy , failrly brutal but if I may a heck of a movie .
What in the world
OGF is a Brit so we must assume heās talking about a āgasperā
Lol I know I just couldnāt resist .
Do not let the fact that I can barely put together a coherent paragraph fool you , I know most of the lingo from other countries as enjoy imitating England , Australia , Scotland and Ireland but no way I can fool the real McCoyās just the locals .
Well low and behold as that I truly did not know but will now use it .
When I was on the orthopaedic ward (1985 - broken kneecap) ashtrays were provided at the bedside. A right old fog in there. Then came the social awareness about smoking.
In following forty years, it has gone from being able to smoke on the wards (or a common room near the wards for those who could make it there) to not being able to smoke anywhere within the hospital grounds. I still see some patients who can get outside the building smoking in the grounds though.
Good heavens NCS Not that sort of āFagāā¦
Iāve never heard of the term āGasperā to describe the act of smokingā¦It certainly isnāt a word used in South Yorkshire Mr Smith⦠ā¦
