Sleeping life guards

A few weeks ago while arriving to our residence club house I was told that the swimming pool was closed at 10.30 am! :rage:

I was really unhappy and surprised as it has always been opened from 7.30 am till 9.30 pm in the past 2 years except during cleaning hours.

I was told that we had changed to a new pool management and that the two life guards had said that to keep their focus etc… they needed to have the pool closed for a 45 minutes break every two hours .
I kid you not!

Imagine my astonishment when yesterday after my swim I could not wake the life guard up to help me open a sun shade screen as the young lad was soundly asleep mouth wide opened and no matter how many times I called him, he had ear plugs in his ears ( listening to smart phone music) and could not hear me.

I had to go to the other life guard another young guard falling asleep opposite side of the pool who went to help me and woke his colleague up but he soundly fell asleep again within minutes!!

What would you do if that happened to you?

Id report it , they are there to save lives not sleep …What if someone was drowning ,if it happens again record it so you have proof .

There’s obviously something wrong with the pool companies staffing levels, if a break is needed then there should be relief guards to take their place…

Yes I would report them…it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

I’d report the incident too - for being asleep on the job and for wearing ear plugs/ ear phones.
It’s a serious safety issue.
If they are supposed to be working as lifeguards, they need to keep both their eyes and ears open in case anyone in or around the swimming pool is in trouble and needs help.
