Six million UK homes ‘could face winter power cuts and rationing’ if Russia cuts supplies

All I could find for recent news was this @Donkeyman

The Ukraine mess that resulted from American messing (again) is being used as a scapegoat for so very much. What is the never mentioned risk to the UK electricity supply is the distribution network which in many parts of especially England overloaded and clapped out, not a good combination.

That’s a good point, Todger. Some of this infrastructure is absolutely ancient, and can’t cope with all the new-build areas of demand.

So you would sit back and allow Putin to exterminate a nation unchallenged and expand a new Greater Russia?

That is not what was or is at stake. The West and especially America is responsible for this disaster.

We are in this crisis because our government is utter shit and pursuing socialist policies instead of conservative ones.

Never forget how Johnson and Sunk did this to us by locking down the country and breaking everything. Even Corbyn didn’t go this far in his manifesto.

Fracking is the way to go. There is a whole thread somewhere on this forum dedicated to fracking/not fracking. I’m totally in favour of doing it. In the meantime, increase our imports of fracked gas from the USA and normal LPG from the UAE. We don’t need Russian gas or oil for that matter.

Wind turbines only work when the wind speeds are high enough to turn the blades but not too high that they become unstable and have to have the breaks applied.

Those mini nuclear reactors are said to be dangerous are they? How many nuclear driven subs and ships are there plying the world’s oceans that haven’t broken down? It’s all a load of bollox IMHO and is just the greenies and lefties playing up and stirring the pot. As Bread say - fear mongering to the extreme.

No need to panic heard somebody on the radio earlier today say that if there was any rationing to be done it would be manufacturers that they’d switch off not the general public and it wouldn’t even come down to that as they have enough supplies. And gas can be imported as LPG.

It’s because the energy companies buy stocks well in advance so they have paid a higher price for it. That’s why so many companies went bankrupt because they didn’t have supplies and when the price shot up, they couldn’t afford to buy it.

The west did not decide to invade Ukraine, that was Putin’s decision along with his Yes men in unison.

It was forced on Russia by the West (America’s) continued encroachment in Ukraine AGAINST treaties especially the Minsk agreements.

We should be blaming Greta, not Putin.

I’m quite sure Greta is suffering the consequences too. And Putin certainly is so, there’s that, I suppose. :woman_shrugging:

No they don’t Pixie, only under very special circumstances in the summer when there is enough wind and hardly anyone is needing the electricity.
This is the situation today. Notice how wind power is hardly contributing at all, and the main method of power generation is Combined Cycle Gas Turbines and Nuclear.

Power

The biomass is Drax and the biomass is wood chips coming from Canada. Drax is actually sat above one of the largest coal fields in Europe, that’s why it was built where it was, but changed to biomass due to pressure from the green lobby.

I feel less bad about our generation mix after viewing your graph.

And some states are doing really well with renewables

There was some sensible news at last on the late night news … British coal fired power stations are to receive a reprieve from closure due to the threats from Russia this winter. . . excellent news. Oh yes and another nuclear power station is to have it’s life extended :ok_hand::+1:

Oh that’s good news. Yeah, why not blame the Russians? Instead of Boris incompetence. Grrr

Scaremongering at it`s best IMO.

We’ll be using the open fire in the Day Room a lot more this coming Winter. Himself has already been down to the woods with the tractor n trailer, also the big saw to cut fallen trees into logs. I take a carrier bag with me each time I walk the dog there and fill it with fallen pine cones, they make grand fire lighters when they’ve been dried out and have a lovely pine smell when burning.
