Sink hole in Surrey

A huge sink hole today in Godstone today in a main road, and now a second one

one way to fill it in very cheaply is to let fly tippers do it :102: :038:

I heard about this earlier, they made it sound like the whole of Surrey had disappeared.

the trouble is that you could fill it and then find another one forming next to it or further up the road. There’s clearly a big problem and they need to analyse what’s causing it and correctly identify the spread before trying to fix it.

Anyone noticed that these holes always appear to be next to new builds, the Barratt home type property.

they probably aren’t surveying the land properly or if they do they put down some % tolerance of risk as Ok to sign off.

Cowboys.

We won’t know how bad some of these new builds are for years. People are avoiding them. No wonder so many stand empty.

Sink holes can become a terrific tourist attraction Mt Gambier has made a good living out of them for decades

Is this just in rural areas or have you had properties swallowed up?

It’s something I’ve seen online in places in the US such as Florida, but I am guessing it’s often down to poor building regulations.

I find this all very interesting because we have been redecorating an old wall which was in bad shape from a bit of water damage. It all went so well until a part of the plaster that hadn’t been skimmed (as it looked ok) started developing cracks after being painted. If you fixed just one bit another crack developed elsewhere after sanding. It’s been a joy. Might as well have just skimmed the whole wall. I’m not the engineer of the family but my fascination with this must mean I have some of the genes! My brother used to have a really dull book about concrete and a more interesting one about minerals. Now I know why.

Right in the middle of town, even the towns water supply is in one.
