Try Duolingoāitās a free app and may help with some basic French. TV5Monde has some basic French exercises as well.

IMO a good grasp of the English spoken word and writing is easy in comparison

I had a wonderful time. In France everyone has to be married at town hall, the state separates the legal part from a religious ceremony. A translator was on hand for non speaking French, then left for a blessing in church, again translated to English.
