Shortcuts have been available, have you ever used one?
Yes. WTFITAA ?
WIOY, LB.
I know of a shortcut that gets me to the convenience shop just that little bit more quickly.
Had my hair cut yesterday. It is fairly short.
Yeah. Around here they are known as Twittens
Twitten is an old Sussex dialect word, used in both East and West Sussex, for small passageways leading between two buildings to courtyards, streets, or open areas behind. Its origins are not clear, it is suggested it may be a corruption of ‘betwixt’ and ‘between’. It is early 19th century and is perhaps related to the low German ‘twiete’, meaning an alley or a lane
You bet. WTF!
I’ve never knowingly used a Twitten - but I frequently use Snickets, Ginnels and an occasional Wynd.
There’s 100 shortcuts on my computer. For example, WinKey + E opens Explorer. Woooo
Aye, well, I spose if I were from oop north, my Twiterns would become Ginnels and Wynds, but being a WWII born Londoner, they aint and since moving to West Sussex, Twitens they shall remain. Its somewhat strange that such a small country should have so many dialects and words to cover the same things and occurrences.
Also having some distant Scottish roots, their slant on English fascinates me
I love to hear all the different regional dialects and it’s really interesting to discover all the different regional words - one of my favourite regional phrases is from Scotland -
Lang may yer lum reek
A shortcut can mean, when you know there is a right way to do something, but, for what ever reason, you choose an easy option, knowing it won’t permanently fix the situation.

Glad we have cleared this one up!
Yes but Scotland has quite a wide range of dialects.
This is frim Chic Murray
He cut a sappy sucker from the muckle rodden-tree,
He trimmed it, an’ he wet it, an’ he thumped it on his knee;
He never heard the teuchat when the harrow broke her eggs,
He missed the craggit heron nabbin’ puddocks in the seggs,
He forgot to hound the collie at the cattle when they strayed,
But you should hae seen the whistle that the wee herd made!
And this from Burns:
When chapman billies leave the street, And drouthy neibors, neibors, meet; As market days are wearing late, And folk begin to tak the gate, While we sit bousing at the nappy, An’ getting fou and unco happy, We think na on the lang Scots miles, The mosses, waters, slaps and stiles, That lie between us and our hame, …
best way from A to B, maybe not the official route.
You really get to know a place when you become a postman. Shortcuts can save miles off your walk, and an early lunch…
Short cuts…no thank you,
I had my hair cut on Tuesday and the hairdresser did a short cut and I hate it
…to add insult to injury it cost me money…
