A long time ago I lived in the Wandle side of Colliers Wood and often strolled up past Abbey Mills to the river and then south on the footpath. But that was back in early '90’s so I’d guess it has changed a lot since then.
A series of books that also details the London rivers is Aaronovitch Rivers of London series. It is escapist fantasy stuff, lots of river gods and goddesses, but well written.
Familiar with the secret rivers of London through the Frieda Klein book series from the Nicci French writing partnership. She even has a map in one of the books as it’s tied in to the location of murders when a serial killer starts playing psychological games with her.
I’m not Annie although I am intrigued. I’ll sit down and look that one up this evening at leisure, thanks! ![]()
I think I’ve read the whole Frieda Klein series, good stuff, and remember the reference to secret rivers, but the only thing I really remember is her relationship with the Polish builder. It’s all over now and they never did get it together.
Josef the Ukrainian builder. She was never meant to get together with him. I think he had a wife back home. He would never meet building regs these days.
The development of her character throughout the books was skillful. She kept pushing people who cared about her away but they kept coming back into her life despite her best efforts. Sorry wrong thread for literature but there was a food theme in the books. She was clearly a vegetarian who was severely malnourished. Avocado and tomatoes or tea and toast is not a balanced diet. It was all meant to represent her Spartan ascetic existence.
Its what the Food Police want us all to eat ![]()
What no Angel Delight?
Avocado is verboten as too decadent. It’s the food of elites
Absolutely shocking suggestion
Well I like doing shocking stuff with Angel Delight, it’s very liberating!
Here’s one I made yesterday…

A friend of mine, living in Aberdeen during the panic buying at the start of the Covid pandemic, finally got into the local Asda. He told me that the place was ransacked, empty shelves everywhere. But there was plenty of avocado and smoked salmon left. I’m not sure if the confirms your claim or not…
Nay meat pies 'n tatties!
There’s the clue!
That looks so delicious I will replicate it ![]()
Go for it Helen!
It’s just a bag of frozen mixed summer fruit from Tesco and a sprinkling of my son’s Whittard of Chelsea hot chocolate powder. It really tastes lovely! ![]()
