Seeing the International Space Station

I could have bee the reflection of my torch.

As you say, the moon is not visible now, I don’t know where it has gone.

Yep defo Jupiter and Venus.

Take a look here to see the viewing times and directions of the planets

Thanks Realist, a bit cloudy last night but as soon as we get a clear night I shall walk up to the lane where there is no light pollution and have a good look. The planets and stars are better to see when there is no moon…

With the naked eye, one of them looks as though it is slightly smudged, is that Venus or Jupiter?

Thats Vaseline on the left lens of you glasses :smiley:

Just a heads up that there is lunar eclipse coming up on Friday the 25th of July with the maximum eclipse lasting 1 hour 43 minutes which is quite a long one.
In the UK, the moon will already rise eclipsed and blood-red at around 8.50pm London-time so it could be quite a site, I will stick more information in here or start a new thread nearer the time.

I take no chances Longdogs, so I go out completely naked just to be on the safe side…:shock::shock:

thanks mate, that sounds interesting, will be watching out for that. Plus I must be more careful withe vaseline.

Well let’s hope we don’t see Uranus.

(Snigger).:-p

Ha Ha you guys are hilarious :-p

Hahaha, nice one Longdogs, it gives mooning a hole new meaning…

Sorry guys, back to the topic…

That’s brilliant DWebb, keep the info coming.
We should start a perennial thread ‘All things Astronomical’ so we can look out for upcoming celestial activity…

Good idea! I have just started a new thread titled as you suggested

Rather than Vaseline on your glasses I am wondering if it might be Saturn with it’s rings you are seeing… as this is at 1am and it looks like Saturn and Mars are the two that are visible then with Jupiter disappearing off into the South West.

Next lot of sightings. There are some at more civilised hours this time, I’ve highlighted those ones. Times are for Birmingham.

Thanks for the updates, Nicol :023:

Yea thanks Nicol, I’m gonna print those off…:023:

Is anybody getting to see it at the moment? Last night was cloudy here but I did see it just after midnight Thursday morning.

Tonight should be ok, 10.46 for 5 minutes, might be a little bit low though. Even better one after midnight!

Won’t see it here as it’ll be cloudy again :frowning:

Yes I got a good view of it last night at about 11:38pm  saw it go right across the sky and it was impressive and bright.

I found it on the ‘SkyView ‘ app on my iPad earlier today. It was in the south east, just below the horizon. When I looked again a few minutes ago, it had disappeared.

Two excellent sightings tonight if you have clear skies…

11:29pm visible from first appearance for 10 minutes! Reaching its peak at 11:32pm, very bright as well at Mag -3.2

Even better one at 1:05am again visible for 10 mins with the peak at 1:10am, Mag -3.5

These timings for Sheffield but should be similar elsewhere
