Scottish Wild Cat

This was taken at a wildlife park of a Scottish Wildcat in effort to breed them, being almost extinct in their habitat. These are wild untameable animals, larger than a domestic cat, capable of taking a small deer.

So beautiful, gorgeous creatures I hope they’re successful in breeding them

@Graham such a beautiful cat even if it is wild.

Lovely!

Isn’t this the wild cat variety that can interbreed with a domestic moggie?

Yes it is. A serious concern for those who are trying to protect the species, as interbreeding dilutes their bloodline and behaviours and further endangers their species.

had a couple at the English wildlife centre when I was there a good few years ago now

I don’t think there is much to worry about with interbreeding, we have feral cats that were once domestic and they grow enormous and wipe out whole species of native animals bringing them to the edge of extinction. Feral cats are very difficult to trap or shoot and they can survive anywhere that there is free water.
