Rufford Lane ford: Millions watch cars get stuck in deep water

Rufford Lane ford: Millions watch cars get stuck in deep water - BBC News (video)

The Rufford Lane ford, which flooded after heavy rain fall during Storm Franklin, often becomes impassable. But that doesn’t deter some drivers, whose failed attempts to cross are being documented by a number of YouTubers.

It has been described by the AA as its “number one flood accident hotspot”, while the Environment Agency has repeatedly warned of the dangers of driving through the ford when it is flooded.

Ben Gregory, 19, of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, said he often spends up to 13 hours filming at the ford for his YouTube channel, which has racked up about 40 million views in the past year.

“I’ve seen cars floating in here before. Vans floating. You just think: 'Why? Why would you do it?” he said.

Why indeed …

For the rest of us, the pleasure of schadenfreude …

This is very close to us and notorious for people trying to show off, and attracts many people to watch the many idiots who frequently come unstuck with their foolishness.

As a coincidence, one our neighbours (recently moved into the street who is quite snooty and pretty much universally disliked), trashed her own Mercedes C class a few weeks ago in Rufford Ford, which happened to be also caught on camera and much to the enjoyment of most of the street… :grinning:
