We joke in our family that you spend your 40s on preventatives and diagnostics, 50s on procedures, and 60s on full-fledged surgeries.
Well, guess who is in her 60s!
I was going to PM to offer mea culpas for not being in touch, but I still don’t have a trust rating (wise forum robots these ) to PM. Apologies for the public announcement, TMI for most.
In a nutshell, I found my mother on the floor having had a stroke, got her to the hospital, stayed with her for a week (she is improving like a trooper), raced back to Florida to take my daughter in for her infusions. With worsening, unflagging back pain (never before) I began to suspect appendicitis (internet self-doctoring ) and asked the nurses if they wouldn’t mind keeping an eye on her so I could slip out for a minute to “drop by” the emergency room.
That casual two-hour visit yielded a possibility of kidney stones, and a why-have-you-tolerated-this-pain-for-so-long (was I?), and a you-may-have-cancer-and-need-to-have-emergency-surgery stunner of a report .
After telling the ER doctor I had no time for such, he and my husband put their feet down and said that I did. Fun times! I could have had gotten by with an ovary removal, but decided to choose the entire surgical menu (you can take out this, and while you are at it that, and that and that…). For the sake of not wanting to be a whiner and having ten BILLION things to do, I decided to bow out on the forum until this insanity had settled down .
Well it has . The end. Well, not quite the end. My mom is back home doing much better! Yay! And I am healthy (no cancer), fully back on my feet after a trying amount of mandatory recovery.
Crikey mom you’ve had such a rough time. Good news that you are ok and also that your mother is feeling better. Seems that they caught the stroke in time to successfully treat. So lucky you were there.
But goodness then what sounds like super major surgery for you! I’m sure it’s all that exercise that has meant that you could bear the pain while helping others before your doctor and husband said no way Jose. I hope you will be able to exercise again too.
Great to have you back (and healthy). Really missed your inspiring and positive posts.
Annie, thank you for your kind, encouraging words. I am happy to say I am back walking and lightly jogging, determined to make myself feeling 59 instead of 61 .
Oh sm, you’ve been through quite an ordeal and I’m so glad it’s got a happy outcome. I’m so pleased to hear you and your mum are fighting back like the troupers you are.
Yaaaay and double yaaaay lovely to see you back. Xxx
Goodness Surfermom, you’ve really been through the mill. Well, you and your family too! So pleased to see you back, with all that worry and stress(mostly) behind you now. And so pleased to know your mum’s recovering well from her stroke.
To think we’d all been wondering where you were and had no idea what you were going through. Welcome back to normality!
Glad things are settling down for you all Surfer, sounds like you’ve had a rough time of late.
We wondered where you were, so welcome back - and take care.
