Remake of "Dalgliesh" series

Has anyone seen any of this series?

I liked the old version with Roy Marsden, and loved the two done by Martin Shaw.
This remake with Bertie Carvell has had mixed reviews - some say it is the best yet and more faithful to the books (which I admit I have never read) but others say it has been badly updated and full of ‘woke’ - whatever that means. Also Dalgliesh has, for some reason, been demoted from Commander to Chief Inspector.

Before I go mad and give Mr Amazon £16.99p - I thought I would ask for opinions from our lovely members.

Roy Marsden was the man!
Never liked Martin Shaw in the role.
I must say the Bertie Carvell character grew on me…

Thanks, Ruthio. I may buy the DVD of the new series and see.

I guess that’s the only way you’ll find out.
But it did take a few episodes for me to warm to this interpretation, and appreciate the flaws in his character. You learn quite a bit about his childhood. I’ve never read the books either, so who knows if this is the true version.
I loved his mum! (Francis de la Tour)

Same here. Didn’t we have a thread about this series on OFF before it closed?

I am a huge fan of the Adam Dalgleish novels and the tv series. I think Roy Marsden is the best Dalgleish by far.
