I liked the old version with Roy Marsden, and loved the two done by Martin Shaw.
This remake with Bertie Carvell has had mixed reviews - some say it is the best yet and more faithful to the books (which I admit I have never read) but others say it has been badly updated and full of ‘woke’ - whatever that means. Also Dalgliesh has, for some reason, been demoted from Commander to Chief Inspector.
Before I go mad and give Mr Amazon £16.99p - I thought I would ask for opinions from our lovely members.
I guess that’s the only way you’ll find out.
But it did take a few episodes for me to warm to this interpretation, and appreciate the flaws in his character. You learn quite a bit about his childhood. I’ve never read the books either, so who knows if this is the true version.
I loved his mum! (Francis de la Tour)
