Originally from the UK, I moved to the USA about 30 years ago looking for better opportunities. I started a life in Los Angeles, got married, and owned several businesses.
With the collapse of the economy I had to sell my last business, and try find yet another way to make money. I have been struggling for the past 6 years trying to build
another business. I am still married right now, but my husband and I had been living separate lives for well over 8 years. I finally moved out of our house about a year ago, and found a small 1 bedroom house to rent. It’s $1400 a month, and on top of all the other bills, I am slowly going under. I don’t really have a social life, I have no kids, and to go anywhere in L.A. involves driving distances,
and dealing with really bad traffic and crowds of people. After dealing with some really difficult issues
with my Photobooth business, and the fact that I’m not able to make the kind of money now, that I was making,
I realized I needed to make a change…Fast! I had been looking to re-locate from L.A. for many years and
decided that maybe living a Mexico I can have a better quality of life. In September I traveled to Lake Chapalla/ Ajijic as I had heard that there was a huge Ex-Pat Community there, and the weather was perfect! I connected with many wonderful people via FB, and already felt like I had friends there. It was a wonderful community and everyone was so helpful and friendly, and I was ready to move there. However, I met with a gal I had
talked to on FB who had just come from San Miguel, and she said I should check San Miguel before I made a commitment. She had only been in Lake Chapala for about 24 hrs, but she pointed out that, although it was a beautiful place, it was a really a little sleepy. We got kicked out of the restaurant at 7.30, (they were closing, we weren’t drunk) and only managed to find one other place to have a drink in. We were 2 of the 4 people in there, and that closed at 10pm. I am going to San Miguel De Allende on Oct 12 to see if maybe that might be a more vibrant city with a good nightlife, that might be a better fit for me. On top of all this, I now have to file for divorce, as, despite my Ex wanting everything to be amicable and sort things out ourselves, he has left me no choice as he doesn’t want to sell our house and now refuses to give me any more money, (I got $30,000 to outfit my rental, he told me I would get $50,000) I worked hard for over 25 years to build our life together and in CA half of everything is mine.
I am starting a blog of my quest to find a better quality of life. Being a 60yr old single woman, what options do we have at this age? I am not ready for the Rocking Chair or sitting at home watching the boob tube…
Wish me Luck.
