Religeous Cold Callers How to Handle them?

A couple of days ago, were overrun by a team of around 10 people, wanting to talk about religion.

I live in a little Hamlet, inside Croydon, a London Borough, there are 26 addresses and most of us are 80+ years old, with several in there late 70s.

These callers are very nice people, but intrusive, to come knocking on a Winters morning, I just said, “No Thank You”, they asked me “To What”, religion was my reply and yes, they have been before.

Shortly after this I went out and they were still around, the two Ladies who had come to my address, started speaking again, not about the church, but about Scotland, because of my accent they wanted information about how to go there on holiday, that would not be too expensive.

So, much as I disagree with their mission, they are heading North of the Border soon.

Should there be some sort of a Bye-Law, stopping this kind of action, the same with the loud preachers in the town centre, in the summer, spouting fire and brimstone, via a microphone, it is bad enough when the priest starts in the actual church, but in the street is wrong in my book, the street is quiet in the cold!

Am I wrong, religion is a choice, not a force.

Mike.

I tell them its “amen”

How do you know it works? none of these groups may have been in your area since the sign was installed

I just tell them I don’t believe in all that nonsense…

If I know they are in the village, having seen them around on my dog walk, I don’t answer the door. If I do answer the door I politely say that I’m not interested and they leave. It’s the people who tell me that my roof needs re-tiling who are harder to get rid of - one of those called yesterday.

Yep, I find that on the rare occasions that they have called that they’ve been civil and polite and leave almost immediately when I let them know that I’m not interested.
It’s the fellas trying to try and get you to change electricity providers for example that can be a bit more in yer face!

I have the ACCC sticker by my door bell.

I have added “No Religious Loonies” in a black Sharpie.

Seems to work.

They must recruit enough people on the doorstep for it to be worth their while, otherwise if everybody ignored them, or shut the door in their face, they wouldn’t bother coming back time and again.

We seldom have them round here, but when you live in a road, where the majority have no door bells and door knockers, it’s really hard to rouse anyone inside.

Tell them it’s a rented property and if they want the owners phone number, give them a housing association’s one, or the Councils. :upside_down_face:

Its a while since I’ve been perstered by any religious person (actually there are always more than one) at my door. My last ten years in London I was in a flat with a conceirge office to get round and now I’m in France, out in the country, the very visit is foreshortened by me suddenly only speaking the Dorrich.
However back in my days in a house in Sutton this did happen. I favoured the approach of being an evangelical atheist, that is telling the door knockers that I aggressively promote the non-faith of atheism and would love the oppportunity to convert them. I’ve even invited them inside, provided I get the first fifteen minutes to preach atheism to them.

I rarely have these callers but if I do I take their leaflets or whatever, thank them and say I’m busy cooking a meal for my husband

I’ve had a non existent husband for many years and he’s got me out of quite a few things !

For some religious folk it can be even more effective to mention a same sex spouse… or more than one.
