Raw sewage dumping still rife!

Water treatment companies admit that they deliberately released untreated sewage into our rivers and into our coastal seas’ 400,000 times since
September 2021 , and these releases lasted a total of M3•1 hrs. !!!
This is NOT acceptable imo ??
I think the problem is caused by the privatisation of our water and sewage
corporations and the fact that these private companies put more importance
to paying their investors high returns than in investing in the infrastructure
needed to maintain good public health levels in the UK ??
Like the privatised railways they need to be taken back into public ownership
before we end up back in the Victorian era ??No wonder hepatitis is
on the rise again !!

It was on our local news a few days ago, that our local water authority here, has just been fined £18,000 for dumping like this, Donkey. Apparently their pollution just killed a load of fish in the river.

It’s disgusting.

@Mups ,Disgusting ain’t it Mups ??
We are definitely going backwards in this country in more ways than one !!
I’m finkin of going back to Africa !!

@The_Artful_Todger ,. Yeah ain’t it?
Is there any evidence that these private companies ever pay these fines ??
I mean £90 million ain’t chicken feed ?
And where does it go to ? ?
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

I’m not in anyway condoning it but 400,000 such events in six months? There’s that many pumping stations…

@Besoeker l think you misread what l posted Besoeker, some sewage
works had multiple spillages each week! Sometimes even in the dry
season,( whenever that is) ?
Thames Water were fined £90 million last year for offenses that they
admitted to ?
BTW, not over six months! Since early 2021 and before !
Donkeyman! :+1::+1:

But 400,000 events in six months?

@Besoeker , Ah, l see what you mean , l can only give you my so urce of
information Besoeker which is as follows!
http; // www. com !

Thank you. The figures just don’t seem right. As you may know my field is/was power electronics. engineering, specifically variable speed drives. Many of those are in the water industry… To that extent I have at least a bit of expertise in that field.

@Besoeker , Yeah, but it’s not a matter of them pumping the sewage
out, it’s just that the sewage works are overloaded and if it rains
they simply overflow ?
What they need is upgrading to cope with demand so that any discharge
is of treated water and not raw !!
Unfortunately government’s have other ideas what to spend on !l
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

reminds you of 15 century britain heh - whats changed over the years?

@gumbud ,“What else has changed” ?
You can have no idea Gummy ??

Couldn’t the sewage be recycled and made into liquid manure to put on vegetables etc?
I’m sure it’s used in some countries that produce Runner Beans, amongst other vegetables?

Maybe, there are too many substances contained in the sewage for that?

@Artangel , Once sewage has been properly treated it can be used to
irrigate fields before crops have been developed, in fact farmers
around here use large enclosed trailer tanks to convey it from the sewage
works to their fields ! (The stink is disgusting !!)
Thank god they only do it once a year !!
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

I thought that was manure produced from animal excrement and rotting vegetation?
I used to live in the country and as you say, the smell was shocking!

@Artangel , Well if it was from animal excrement Arty why do the tractors
come out of the sewage works with full tanks ??
Donkeyman! :roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

They took a wrong turn? :laughing:
