Quote for a fence - Help guys

My fence at the side of my house blew down in the wind at the weekend and it broke the posts so I need a new fence and a 6 foot gate. I only need one 6 foot panel and the gate and how ever many posts it takes to erect that. Have you any idea of an average price that you think it might cost me?

I had one quote today of £500 and I’m getting another tomorrow, I will probably get a 3rd quote too. I’m a bit shocked at £500 but do you think thats the going price?

Make sure you get concrete posts

Our fence blew down in a gale when we first moved here - that was almost three years ago. We replaced it and I think it was about £500. The fence is about 60 ft. The posts are concrete and they were fine.

LQ I had such nightmare times with my 5ft wooden panels blowing down and the posts rotting it cost me a fortune each year to replace bits here and bits there .

5 months ago approx I had featherboard fencing and concrete posts 2 x 5ft panels and 3 concrete posts and two men working charged me £500 it was very expensive but they did a very good job. The lads apologised as the costs had risen for the posts like everything and at the time concrete was difficult to get believe it or not . I winced as I paid them as it hit my pocket bad but they told me it will be there for a good while . Sometimes during bad storms the panels can burst through but I wont have the problems I’ve had for 17 years with the old type.

Hope you get it sorted.

Sorry for straying a little, but we have some tall pine trees at the front of our house and they have worried us a little whenever the wind gets up. If they go down one way they’ll land on the house; if the other way they’ll block the busy road in front of us.

Fortunately, only a few days before these strong winds over the past couple of days, we had the tops lopped off.

Sorry. Back to fences now!

what type of panel larchlap /interwoven/ featheredge with arris rail. Posts wooden or cocrete. metal or wooden gate and the width. As you can see without knowing all of this even hazzarding a guess could be way out. I would say though £500 seems to be very excessive usually because they don’t want the job

If they have to dig out the old posts, and the concrete that they’re set in , that’s a very Labour intensive and time consuming job, unless they can get a mini digger in, posts can be £20 each and the same for panels , then putting in the new posts and panels shouldn’t take too long, materials have risen dramatically lately, so we have to pay

Have you had a couple of quotes??.

£500 pounds is very cheap down here everything is double that las time I had some fencing done( about five years ago ) it cost me well over a thousand pound s.

No one quotes specific nowadays, it seems people quote for a days work, even is the job takes say, just four hours, just get the price broke down on paper so you can see what’s going on.

£500 is what I would expect from a fencing company.

But … don’t you have a local handyman to do this kind of thing for cash. A fence panel is £30 from Wickes …

When I need something like this doing, I ask builders renovating a house locally and/or ask on the community website.

Whilst your getting your fence replaced, it’s better to buy good quality panels from a local wood yard or timber merchants, the quality of the panels found in the big diy stores are iffy
