I had occasion to visit the area where my Lovely Cousin used to live when we were a-courting, and decided to take a stroll down memory lane whilst I was there.
Now closed, I used to have a drink and play darts in this pub with my lovely cousin (the one I didn’t marry) and my Aunt whilst my Uncle and Lovely Cousin (the one I did marry) were attending a weekly first aid course nearby.
Apparently it is to become a children’s day-care centre. Whilst the pub aspect may not be considered appropriate, I do hope the countryside part of the artwork is retained.
I especially like the moo-cow.
On the side of another pub down the road a bit. Very witty.
Two hundred metres from my Lovely’s former home.
To Bristol
To Penzance
Everything to the South of the railway line used to be open fields and farmland with the odd house dotted along the lane. Now it’s a housing estate.
The only saving grace is that the planners, in their infinite wisdom, put this two hundred metre wide buffer (pun intended) between the railway line and the residential estate.
A meandering footpath past a currently dry flood prevention lake.
Beyond another bridge over the tracks, the path runs through a small park with this railway inspired sculpture.
Sadly it’s covered in graffiti. This is the side with the least vandalism.
More of the buffer. There was a nice little play are there as well, but with young kids playing in it I though it best not to take any pics there.
Almost back to my car, I found this information board at the entrance to a short alleyway on the site of a railway line and tiny wooden station. Long gone over eighty years now, the railway was affectionately known as the WC and P. * snigger *
Seeing the endless rows of houses, dead end roads, and blocks of flats where cattle once grazed was quite sad, but I did get to see the doorstep where my Lovely Cousin accepted my proposal of marriage.
