Prince Phillip

A visit to spec savers…Prince George is the spitting image of his dad at the age of seven…according to the papers and others…so it may be someone else in need of a visit to the opticians…

Good post, JBR!

I’d like to add that famous people, in my opinion, have not just started going off the rails, publicly, in our lifetimes.

They’ve always done it!

(By the way, many of us do it as well, but we’re not important enough for it to be an issue)

The real difference is (this is where I always get repetitive) that there has never been the level of media mass feeding, of real or false news, that there is now!

I think that the Queen has played her own hand very well, and kept the media in hand, to a degree!

I don’t know where the Royals will go next, as our Queen leaves the scene, but I don’t think public opinion will improve.

But, if you look around at Presidents & Politicians, etc., we are going to very short of inspiring leaders in the future.

The Queen might well be the last?

The “queen” has people TELLING her what to say and do together with a very effective public relations organisation managing “The Firm”.

Added to which insanity runs through the “royal” family like lettering in a stick of rock.

I haven’t met enough of them to make a judgement!

I understand. If that had been Marge I would feel exactly the same. I hope that time will heal.

There was a lot of hate trolling about Captain Tom too, before and after he died. People like Captain Tom and the Queen inspire others. Phillip has obviously inspired many young people to do the Duke of Edinburgh awards over 60 years +. I guess some prefer to focus on the negatives.

Agree.

People and institutions make mistakes and errors of judgement. The least that anyone can expect is an apology when it happens, and an assurance that some good will come from it in terms of lessons learnt.

It might not help Poobear in terms of grieving his loss, but at least it won’t add to the anguish.

I have no idea how much he has actually been involved in the setting up and running of the scheme over the years, but it is true that the high profile and recognised prestige of the DofE awards has been excellent in terms of outcome.

You don’t need to physically meet any of them, it’s widely documented as a matter of record.

Hi

Perhaps you do.

The young ones are very different and very polite.

He was very much involved. It’s his life’s work. I don’t think the Queen and DoE have ever been idle.

A person doesn’t need to. The proof is everywhere especially if a person compares and contrasts what is pushed down our throats.

Of course it always puzzles me that people don’t realise this .
“ The Firm” was a term invented by the D of E to make it appear like real work .

:023:

That’s not really true Annie
He presented the award that was about the sum of his role .

I don’t think for one minute that the Dof E has inspired any young people to do it it’s just an extra curriculum activity at some schools
What exactly are you saying the Queen has inspired any young people to do ?

If there is one thing that the covid pandemic has shown all too clearly is the total uselessness of the royal family they have quite honestly done nothing at all to help out .
They have holed up in their isolated mansions safe as houses .
Prince Philip could have donated his totally undeserved £395k PA to the national health or even some of his millions .
Ok it wouldn’t look much next to the millions Captain Tom raised but he could have done something .
As could have Charles .
They have the money and the power to do good but they did nothing .
They could have organises a factory making PPE or delivered meals on wheels to oldies why not ?
But they were conspicuous by their absence .

OMG Muddy when you get on a roll about the Royals you don’t know when to pull the plug lol .
Can’t you see how hateful you’re being ? You don’t really expect them to organise the things you’ve brought up in that post ?
Comparing them to Captain Tom ? The very idea !

How the hate word jumps up when the sacred cow of royalty is touched upon .

I don’t hate them at all they are just a not very clever but privileged family who for some extraordinary reason people like to fawn upon and attribute qualities that they don’t have .
Their only qualification is the lottery of birth .

Why couldn’t they have done something if one elderly man who could barely walked managed to ,how is it the numerous royals which include an entire crowd of hangers could not do something ?
It would have been a good time for them to put something back instead of just being takers .
An opportunity missed .

Hear hear. :023:
I’ve made my opinion of the Queen and Phil perfectly clear. I have no interest in repeating myself.

The fact is that no one here can actually say what the RF has done or inspired .
‘ inspire ‘ is just a sound bite they don’t inspire people they are nothing more than very expensive figure heads .

We don’t need them .
