Eel Pie Island is an 8.9-acre (3.6 ha) island in the River Thames at Twickenham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
There are a couple of others a bit nearer but smaller and of no interest.

Would you know who lives there? Is it an attractive location or are there too many disadvantages?
Accessible only by boat or footbridge, has about 50 homes, 120 residents, a yacht club and a rowing club, as well as small businesses and artists studios.
Famous for being an ex hippy commune, a venue where the Stones, the Who, Pink Floyd once played. A recording studio owned by Pete Townshend.
The Isle of Wight for me too!
I have many happy memories of spending time there over the years.
Sadly the spooky old wax museum in Brading no longer exists, scared the living daylights out of me when I was a kiddie!
I can imagine that. Who was that poor guy?
There you go Dachs, it seems that the old place has come back from the grave. Really must take a trip over the Solent when the weather improves
Nearest river to me is teh Ravensbourne - more of a stream in places
Saw the Yardbirds there as well.
Ischia is the nearest island, although it takes about 3 hours to get there, train and ferry. As you can guess, I live inland, very far from the sea. The mountains are the nearest, like this one, Monte Taburno. The peak is 1,400metres.
Good decision., Chilli. You see what this thread and forum does: it makes you catch up on recent developments. When you go, remember my question and post the answer here. I’m curious.
Forgive me Dachs, in my excitement I neglected to provide you with an answer to your question.
The poor fellow in the bed was Louis de Rochefort , he was an agent during the English civil war, a dangerous job as he discovered Of course the house is said to be haunted by him and some say that his remains were secreted within the building or were buried within the grounds.
It’s a shame that the building is no longer a wax museum and all that remains is a fascinating but comparatively meagre exhibition.
My understanding is that the waxworks simply wasn’t making the money that it used to, people’s tastes and expectations tend to change over the years.
You can’t be far from me as this would be the photo I would post too , just 2 miles up the hill
Yes, in fact there are many houses built where they shouldn’t be, especially further inland beneath the mountain. A huge flood and landslide here caused massive destruction and victims unfortunately a few years ago.
