Politicians are not educated

It is so true politicians are the most uneducated people one can come across. Even small children have learn’t to say YES OR NO from an early age. Just watch any politician when asked a direct question they do their best to deflect the question by one means of another

Been saying the same for years realspeed.
I wonder what they would say if the were asked if they deserve the wages they get paid ?.

You do know that politicians get training and rehearsals into answering questions? Anyone can go get the same training. Pretty much anyone you see interviewed (business people, so-called experts, senior civil servants, etc.) will, or should, get this training. It’s about getting a message across without being pinned down.
I’d think many politicians are more educated in such things than most of us. Now as to whether they are open and honest - that’s a whole different thing.
PS it is a brave person who posts about poor education in others and then spells learnt with an apostrophe between the n and the t. Easy mistake or typo but done in the wrong post.

Au contraire, in general politicians are amongst the most educated, they just do not like to be challenged, then they become ignorant

Politicians enjoy being challenged on the subject of their choice. On a different subject? No problem, as it gives them the opportunity to turn the conversation round to their subject of choice.

It is not just pollies, there are a couple of members of my seniors club who can turn any conversation on any topic into one about their ailments. They do almost seamlessly with infinite detail, definitely an artform.

Not just ailments.
There are a few on this forum who are very adept at hijacking a thread and trying to make it about their pet issue. This week we have mainly being seeing net zero popping up.

Be aware that there are things you don’t know you don’t know. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. :grinning:

I disagree, most politicians are very clever indeed. Except they are clever in the wrong things…

If someone is evasive when being asked questions, it doesn’t mean that they are not educated nor that they have no manners but that they’re using rhetorical skills. So it’s rather the opposite since it signals that they are trained. Without that training they would find it hard to stand their ground. Politicians, too, have the right to participate in any kind of conversation on a level playing field which implies that they answer questions as they see fit even if the answer may not be as precise and comprehensive as one had expected. Trying to pin politicians down on something and making them look like a fool is not very helpful either.
Politicians have to take differing interests into account and they definitely know their Machiavelli who came to the conclusion that political support of voters is relative: “For this can be said of men in general, that they are ungrateful, fickle, insincere, hypocritical, fearful and greedy; and as long as you do them good, they are completely devoted to you: they offer you their blood, their possessions, their lives and their children, when - as I said above - need is far away; but when it comes closer to you, they turn against you.” Never ask more of others than you ask of yourself.

There is asking, then there is suggestion  :icon_wink:

…and that is greed and self preservation.

The only thing really counts to the ambitious in life, is power. Why do you think Trump is so interested in being President, with power most anything is possible, power is the incentive of politics, power, greed, and self preservation…

Did I deny that?

Did I say you denied it?

Educated or not, they soon learn how to get their ever-greedy snouts in our publicly funded trough
