Political donations and dodgy money

It has been noted on other threads that the US system of super-PACs (political funds with it seems no upper limit) are a major cause of politics just becoming about the money. That seems clear in the US where Trump pumped tens of millions into the campaign to replace Thomas Massie - one of the few republicans willing to be critical of Trump’s administration. Actually, from what I’ve seen, one of the few intelligent republicans.
Now in the UK we have Farage getting £5m from a private (not domiciled in the UK) donor. Ok, this is small beer compared to the money swilling around US fund raising. But it is a trend towards the US way of working - it was not a donation to a party, it was to an individual. It was attempting to side step the rules by donating before overseas donations are limited and before Farage became an MP (although he was head of the Reform Ltd party, so very much in politics). Farage is now flailing around making excuses and distractions.
Sad days on both sides of the Atlantic.
