The Metropolitan Police will be sending text messages to people who may have been targeted by fraudsters.
It is unusual for the police to contact potential victims by phone texts but the only information they have is their phone number.
The police have stressed that they will only be sending texts today and tomorrow (24th & 25th November) and it will direct fraud victims where to report online if they have been a victim of fraud but it will not include a “clickable” link.
They hope this will differentiate the police text messages from any possible “copycat” scam texts.
I’m glad the police have been able to take down such a large fraud organisation and arrest so many fraudsters in one operation but, as they have said, this is only one group of fraudsters and others will spring up to take their place.
We need to be so careful and vigilant these days.

I thought this Guardian link gave a better explanation of how the scam website worked.
