Duty of Care

Here is a poem I wrote about the elderly in winter.

Dark nights are upon us
Yes, Winter’s on it’s way
Our fires will burn brightly
To keep the cold at bay

But what about the old folks
Who can’t afford the bills
They’ll shiver in their homes
Hypothermia sometimes kills

Some may be so lonely
As no one ever calls
They just sit in their rooms
Looking only at four walls

Lets think about our old folk
That may be feeling sad
A little call upon them
Then they may not feel so bad

As fellow human beings
We have a duty of care
To make our old peoples day
A little easier to bear

A small amount of our time
Could bring a smile upon their face
Making them feel happy
Restoring faith in the human race

Welcome, Lion Queen, and what an entrance!

Absolutely beautiful Lion Queen…:038:

What a flurry of talent we do have in these parts…

Thank you

Thanks Blue

Here is a poem that I wrote that I think many will identify with in here lol

Aches and Pains

Aches and pains, joints a creaking
Driving me insane
Knees go crack, hips dislodge
I’m walking like John Wayne!

Lines and wrinkles, needs some filler
These creases need to go
I also need a miracle cure
For the pain in my big toe!

Boobs headed south, hair’s gone thin
My bum has got too fat
Eyes can’t see much anymore
I’m almost blind as a bat!

My hearings gone I need an aid
And now the battery died
This age that’s creeping up on me
I really can’t abide!

Thanks WB… there are some nice poems on these pages.

Here is another I wrote, accompanied with it’s picture… Just a bit of fun really.

Fairy Feast

Tonight it is the Fairy Feast
We call it ‘Magic Day’
When all the fairies, pixies, elves,
Have fun in every way.

The pixies made our satin shoes
In midnight blue and gold,
Grandma Fay made ‘fairy muffs’
To keep us from the cold.

Gowns of lilacs, pinks and blues,
We paint our wings to match,
Showered in glittering magic dust…
…“Some stars we need to catch”!

The pumpkin coach is shiny bright
With jewels of every shade,
Rubies, diamonds, sapphires, jet,
Amethysts and jade.

To the Feast we gaily go,
Jack Frost is out to play,
Fairy horses pull our coach
And glow worms light our way.

Pixies dressed in scarlet coats
Elves in velvet pants,
Rosy cheeks and polished ears,
And shoes to make them dance.

Down to the Fairy Glen we race
Where we can dance and sing,
Elves will dance 'till morning light
In one big fairy ring.

We’re here, Oh look! How beautiful,
The trees are cloaked with snow,
And as we pass along the way
They bow to say ‘hello’.

We’d caught some stars of different size
And kept them in a chest
We took them out and gasped with joy
Their brilliance lit the guests

The stars are placed upon the snow
A secret game we play
Of magic, tricks and fairy wit
We call it ‘Trigg and Tay’.

All at once the clock struck twelve
From the village far away,
Hooray! It’s time to start our Feast,
“Happy Magic Day”

Autumn

I wandered in a forest through trees so very tall,
Little creatures dashing, when autumn leaves do fall.
Busy trying to find a warm, safe place to be
For winter months ahead, and so, they came to me.

They gathered all around and listened to my tales,
About my human friends and frogs and toads and snails.
These all have homes to go to, and shelter from the snow,
But my little fairy friends had nowhere else to go.

The fairies climbed upon my lap and sat upon my hand,
Shivering wings and bright red nose in a cold and frosty land.
They found their way inside my coat, and clung so very tight,
Some climbed inside my pockets and curled up for the night.

Then I walked the leafy paths and made my way back home,
To my delight, the fire was bright it made a cheery room.
I’d gathered up some feathers, fluffy, soft and white,
And placed them in a little box near to the dimmest light.

From my coat, I gently took fairies three and four,
Placed them in the feathered box and covered them with more.
Just then I heard a little tap, and looked outside to see,
Three more shivering tiny ones had come to visit me.

They all flew in and sat upon my shoulder, then I said,
‘I suppose you too, have come to find a nice warm feather bed?’
They nodded and then flitted around the room in glee,
Landing on my special cup, they had a sip of tea.

That warmed the cockles of their tiny fairy hearts,
Their little cheeks began to glow; I thought they would depart,
But when I turned around and saw a movement on the mat,
They’d made themselves feel quite at home, curled up in my old hat.

fab poetry here, I love it

I wrote this one for poppy day a few years back. I hope you don’t mind if I post 1 poem a day. I like to be able to share my poems and read others.

Heavenly Soldier

The soldier who died fighting
Now stood at Heavens gate
Would the Lord embrace him?
He waited for his fate

God now asked the soldier
Do you deserve a place
Here with these good people
From the human race?

The soldier thinks awhile
Then tells God his thought
No Lord I’m not perfect
But for my fellow man I fought

I carried a gun, I opened fire,
I threw a hand grenade
I didn’t want to kill him
I knelt by him and prayed

I did all this in the call of duty
Killing was not my choice
The army called me up to fight
Me, and many boys

See dear lord I am not bad
For my country I had to serve
I stood shaking, petrified
But I couldn’t lose my nerve

The Lord by now had heard enough
His judgement he had made
Come in my son walk through here
Come join the heavenly parade

So now the soldier marches on
Burdens taken from his shoulders
Happy in Heaven serving God
With other fallen soldiers

After reading these poems, some brief some long
Some stay in my mind like a favourite song
Yet others pass by me like ships in the night
With verses to complex and hard to recite

The humorous poems will oft make me smile
But some are so deep, it does take me a while
To gather the meaning the lines have conveyed
And sadly sometimes my attention will fade

From Epics to limericks and all in between
The spirit is lifted by those that are keen
To put pen to paper and give up their time
And say what they feel through an ode or a rhyme

If this poem makes you smile, or raises a curse
Please remember I tried, and it could have been worse
And I ask of those poets, don’t give up the quest
Just stand up and shout “we’ll i gave it my best”

What a wonderfully insightful poem. I read and savoured every word and after reading felt as if I’d had a 5 course meal.

Tezza, you have inspired me to look again at my output since 2004 & unblock the blank page syndrome which blights would-be writers of all persuasions, some terminally .
