I built one, a couple of years ago, but I didn’t use it, although I did test it,
modern TVs and LED lights makes it easier, as smaller units will run a
flat or small house.
ah I see. I was reading that there is a problem with all solar installations because the grid isn’t able to monitor the supply for these and wind turbines etc properly. So when they plan power supply for the country it’s completely inaccurate.
Can’t these plug in kits be used instead of taking power from the grid for things like lighting, TV’s and other low power devices therefore reducing electricity bills?
I doubt that you could sell any electricity to your supplier, via a plug in system,
the ones that can feed back to the grid are very large and expensive as the
suppliers insist on a big back-up being available.
These systems supply via a 13 amp plug, so your load would have to be a bit
smaller than that.
When I tested mine, I switched off the main switch and it all worked, except
the lights which a have a special safety switch in the board, but I could use
plug in lamps,
All of my flat has LED lighting and gas heating also cooking, I removed the
electric shower (10KW) and put in a mixer tap, I have a “wet room”, so my
bills are manageable.
Be careful if you go along this route of plug in solar, it can be dangerous, I
am an Electrician, (Retired), so I understand the problems.
As for, Motor Homes, Boats, Caravans, Tents and isolated cottages out in
the countryside, they are all, “Off Grid”, so they have been legal since it
has been able to fix such a system to them, the vehicle ones are mainly
being charged during the days drive, backed up by solar panels.
