I went to a quiz last night and one of the questions was… ‘How many whiskers does a cat have?’
I said, six, three at each side.
Another member of the team said, ‘Twenty whiskers’.
Another member said, ‘Thirty whiskers’.
Who do you think was right?
If you haven’t got a cat… how many whiskers would you think they have?
Are you talking whiskers on cheeks or are you including eyebrow whiskers and those few “whiskers” on their legs?
My cats often had odd numbers of whiskers on each side of face - and the numbers would change as whiskers fell out and re-grew.
They generally had about a dozen on each side of the face, give or take a few, about half a dozen above each eye and about three on the back of each front leg.
I’ve had cats of all colours - the whiskers were easy to count on the black cats with white bibs, paws and whiskers!
Nemo has 14 whiskers of various lengths on each cheek and 7 above each eye.
Willow has fewer, quite short, whiskers and refused to let me count them - said she was too busy sleeping.
