In a second trial of the Pfizer oral antiviral, Pfizer maintains that the oral antiviral treatment efficacy remains high, even against the omicron variant.
Pfizer announced new results on Tuesday from studies testing its five-day course of COVID antiviral pills, confirming Paxlovid cut the risk of hospitalization or death in a trial for patients at high-risk of severe COVID-19 by 89% when treated within the first three days of their symptoms.
Pfizer also announced an interim analysis of data from another trial that found a 70% reduction in the risk of hospitalization and no deaths compared to placebo, in a study that also included unvaccinated adults who did not have underlying conditions putting them at high-risk of severe COVID-19.
The company says early results from its lab tests shows its antiviral will likely remain effective against all variants of concern, including Omicron .
Bourla (CEO of Pfizer) called the treatment a “game changer” Tuesday on “CBS Mornings” and said that Paxlovid could be available this month if the FDA provides emergency authorization.
Pfizer’s antiviral pills have been hailed by federal health officials as a potential game-changer in the fight against COVID-19, even before the Omicron variant was discovered.

Biden is encouraged by the news of Pfizer’s antiviral drug.
President Joe Biden on Tuesday praised Pfizer’s report that its experimental treatment for Covid-19 cut the risk of hospitalization or death by 89% if given to high-risk adults within a few days of their first symptoms. . . .
Biden noted in his statement that his administration "has already placed an order for enough of these pills to treat 10 million Americans," but stressed that getting vaccinated against the virus and receiving a booster shot “remain the most important tools we have to save lives.”
“But if this treatment is indeed authorized – and once the pills are widely available – it will mark a significant step forward in our path out of the pandemic,” he said.

Pity Pfizer won’t release this data for 75 years
Biden doubles order of Pfizer’s oral antiviral to 20 million treatment courses for the US.
The United States government doubled its order for Pfizer’s Covid pills on Tuesday, a move that will modestly increase the nation’s very limited supply of the treatment in the short term amid a record-setting surge in coronavirus cases.
The new order will eventually provide enough pills for an additional 10 million Americans, bringing the government’s total order of the drug to 20 million treatment courses. But they will not all be available right away. Only 35,000 of the additional courses will be delivered this month, and 50,000 more in February, supplementing 350,000 treatment courses that were already expected over the next two months, according to a senior administration official.
You would only say it was false if they did.

Lame excuse the FDA was using that it didn’t have enough staff when it has 18K of staff but only 10 allocated to that project.

Yep - they wanted to keep it secret until everyone vaccinated with it is dead
Coincidence that Scott Gottlieb was the head of the FDA, who is now the head of Pfizer ?

Our interests must be very different, because I find that boring.
