The first was a utility truck with sheets of glass. The front was totalled as he attempted to turn right into oncoming traffic. Appears he hit a large bus.
Miraculously the glass was, though off the stands and inches from the road surface, still unbroken, held on by straps.
I assume the driver of the utility was the one one the phone, police and tow truck required.
No police in attendance, so very recent crash, a few minutes?
The second one seemed more problematic, whith 2 fire engines blocking the 2 lanes.
Hopfully no one is seriously injured.
There is bush alongside this road, I saw no smoke so maybe no fire?
I saw this one early enough to be able to turn right and take another route home.
No broken glass must have been a stroke of luck in a bad situation .
Accidents are always happening on the roads close to us , most recently a 3 car pile up , road closed for hours , there was a up turned car on its roof in a field , same spot where other cars have finished up , We are thinking it could be a Muntjac crossing and cars are swerving to miss them .
Here I think too many drivers are texting on their phones, the cause of the majority of accidents here.
Muntjac - please explain
a muntjac is a small deer ,
Thank you for the information. Introduced species wreak havoc on the environment, no matter where that is.
Never had a road accident in my 65 years of driving. Seen loads in my rear view mirror though.
I had one where I probably should have died.
After a week of 12 hour night shifts I drove back to Perth.
Cruise control set at 110, I fell sleep and smashed straight into a tree.
I woke up about 1 second before hitting the tree. Had I awoken 5 seconds earlier, no doubt I would have attempted to avoid hitting the tree. Thus turning the car sideways, leading to a side on smash on my drivers side. At that speed? Most like severely injured or killed.
The vehicle hit the tree dead centre, perfect spot on the vehicle. Large V indentation, never even cracked a mirror or windscreen/window.
My injury? 3 broken toes from being forced back very rapidly.
I seem to remember different rules down under, maybe not different laws just different common practises.
The driver on the main road gives way to driver pulling out from side road?
Maybe some think the driver on the main road should slow down or stop for oncoming vehicle turning across in front of him?
And do those from different parts of the country have different driving habits?
What happens in those situations is that the driver on the side road must not come out until the way is clear.
In reality, the driver on the side road pulls out, knowing the other driver is going to begrudgingly slow down or hit the car pulling out.
This is happening more and more. Arrogant drivers thinking the road is theirs to do as they please.
Do you wonder whether there if you had intervention from the other side? Or just incredibly good luck?
Agreed. Humans are a problem everywhere .
My way of thinking is that there was no “intervention from the other side”
Two things saved me, waking up moments before impact, (no time to attempt correction), the crumple zones of the vehicle working as intended. (designed to absorb impact energy so that most of that energy is dissipated before affecting the passenger compartment)
Some say I was lucky, I would agree with that. Lucky I never woke woke too early.
