Thanks Sheba, yes…have a go. Its messy but fun.
We used to call that ‘Marbling’ when I was at school - love the colours in this example. Thank you, Morti.
[quote]@morticia - Here’s an empty Branston pickle jar I requisitioned.
I really ought to stick a coat of resin on it to make it all glossy but I’m a mean miserly morty.
Wow - you crafty little piglet - that is beautiful!
I’m eating my way through a big Branston jar now so I can get a matching pair.
I have a shelf full of jars in the garage - waiting for the pickling season to begin - might just have to reassign a few now!!
That took me ages … I couldn’t do the app one. I had to find one that you could just use to design online on a laptop.
Optimal Print
It’s not very good. The detail hasn’t come out and the blue and gold paint are metallic on the original. (Same disclaimer over the room setting: It’s not mine).
Oh this looks lovely! pretty colours and very flowy. Yeah metallic colours always get toned down on a PC. Look better in real life. So, are you selling it? Get it on Etsy!
What! It’s the only decent one I’ve done. I’ve willed it to Mr M.
Have you tried doing it with a hairdryer?
I haven’t.
Or blowing with a straw. I’ve tried that and it can be very effective.
And ballon kissing. That’s dabbing your paint when it’s dried off a bit to make rather nice delicate globular flower shapes … I haven’t really tried that either.
It’s such good fun!
Oh that looks stunning Morty! Such a shame the metallics don’t show, but I know they can be a problem to reproduce on a screen. I bet it looks amazing in the flesh so to speak.
I loved that video too, but oh I do wish they’d shown the process of removing the vases and paper cups and then finishing the canvas!
Let me do a Blue Peter on you…
Here’s one I did earlier (Like many years earlier) Before the hairdryer…
and then I took the hairdryer to it and this happened
Also just to add…this is just poster paint…not acrylic. Poster paint works well too if you add glue. Its just like acrylic.
I’m starting to sound like I know what I’m talking about, so I’ll go now!
Here’s a handy video which shows the pouring … and this one is just paint and water (no mixing medium or other stuff the real fans use).
I don’t bother weighing everything out like he does at the beginning . I just gauge the consistency by eye, which is a little unprofessional and idle I suppose.
No you won’t!
I like the effect you got from the hairdryer … I’ll have to buy a hairdryer now! It’s very feathery and mosaic like in places.
Have you tried silicone oil?
I haven’t , as it’s pricey and hard to justify whilst I’m still just experimenting.
I did read that one or drops of washing up liquid can give the same effect … which was an exaggeration, but it did, nevertheless make a difference.
Have a go with it yourself next time … and tell me what you think of it.
Wow, that is rather impressive! So he’s mixing acrylic paints with water then? Yes, of course, I suppose acrylic paints are water based, so no problem. He makes it look so easy… hmm, famous last words
He does doesn’t he … but he’s very inspirational.
Here’s another one of his. I rather like the music too as some of them just yak yak yak all the way through.
I tried silicone spray, which I mixed with the paint before pouring. That was for the “cells” effect, but it didn’t really work for me.I’m not really a fan of adding all the fancy mediums to be honest. Water paint & glue, and that’s it. Paid a tenner for that spray too! Hrmph!
Oh and the washing up liquid (well, ours in the UK) is formulated differently from the one popular in paint pours. I haven’t found it works. Although if you add it to poster paint & glue, it does make it slightly glossy. But just use Deco Mache or PVA glue to varnish it anyway.
I’m just a paint, water and PVA glue girl too.
And … PVA as a sealant protector.
The problem can be where to put them all when they’re drying. I’ve just done one that’s taken 4 days.
