Over 50's Club Scotland (Part 1)

I only joined today and have just spotted the Scottish thread. I’m from Cheshire, but moved up here 30+ years ago with my job. I live in rural Ayrshire surrounded by fields on all sides, loads of sheep and LOTS of peace and quiet- something difficult to get these days.

Anyway, just sticking my foot in the door !

Mike.

Hello Mike and welcome to the forum

Sadly no-one visits the Scottish thread any more … but who knows you may be the one to revive it. I always enjoyed reading it even though I’m not Scottish (a Lancashire lass who lives in Cheshire ;-))

I was in Scotland a couple of weeks ago on a coach trip … stayed in Monkton … visited Girvan … Ayr … Loch Lomond … Glasgow and Moffat … a great weekend

Have you started a thread to introduce yourself so members can welcome you to the forum ?

Hi Margaret.
Many thanks indeed for the welcome. Much appreciated ! Sad to hear that the thread isn’t active any longer. Ho-hum. Yes, I’ve done the introductory bit and am most appreciative of the replies. I’m glad you enjoyed your coach trip. I live about an hour away from Monkton. A bit too close to Prestwick Airport for the peace and quiet I like so much though.
Ayr, Girvan & Moffat are all nice places to visit. Last time I was through Macclesfield was en route to a Steam Fair/rally near Jodrell Bank. A nice part of the world !

Mike.

Hi myrtle and Nephroin and welcome. Yes sadly this thread is no longer active. I think one member left and the rest followed.

Hi

There is still one Scottish member still around who contributed to this thread … it’s Valentinojess … she now posts in the Wales thread …

Good evening everybody sadly a lot of people left the thread so maybe it can be revived.

 and as if by magic the lady herself appears

Hello VJ :039:

Hi Myrtle its a long time since we chatted on here…

Well i came in and said hello but you all left me hanging. Is its coz im a Geordie.

I do miss reading this thread :-(. But … shhhhh  … I now read the Wales thread … one of the nicest and friendliest threads on the forum these days

Since we last spoke VJ I did get to Edinburgh … I stayed in Melrose for a weekend … travelled to Edinburgh on the Borders Railway … was overwhelmed by Waverley Station  … had a coffee in John Lewis  … lost my camera on a bus :frowning: … but I had a lovely weekend :-). Shame we never got to meet up … maybe next time ?

I was in Scotland again last month (you’ve probably read my earlier post) … I thought Glasgow was fantastic

Hello Nom :039: … now stop sulking !!!

Hi Nephroin and welcome. Hi Nom we talk to everybody. Myrtle you’ve seen more of Scotland than I have, I might venture on a bus tour by myself. As for Glasgow I’m going there today to meet friends for a coffee and a chat.

Have a great day VJ … I did the open top bus tour when I was in Glasgow … the Transport Museum is fantastic

I hope we can reinvigorate the Scottish thread. I only head into Glasgow about once a month to meet up with a friend, but I try to vary my walking route from the station. Always discover something of interest. Yes, the “new” Transport Museum is very good ! Even after 32 years of being north of the border, I still struggle to understand broad Glaswegian ! Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are great places just to have a mooch around. I prefer the solitude of the hills myself, but hey, I’ve no wish to become a total hermit just yet !

Hi Mike … I enjoy walking in the countryside too … as you know Macclesfield and the surrounding areas are great walking country … the only good thing about hills is the view you get from the top

Yes, the view from the top is “usually” worth the effort. :-D:-D
Going back down is pretty good too - as long as the knees have had a recent service !! In the past, a quiet mooch around the Cheshire plain (I used to live outside Chester) was just as enjoyable. A flask of coffee, some sandwiches, an emergency Mars Bar, a new set of batteries in the boots and the world is your oyster !!

Well i do ike Scotland both worked and played in it, Prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh and love the Isles and from Glencoe to Inverness.

I love doing the open bus tour myself both in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Been really sunny here today and the sun is still shining.

Thank you Nom !!! I too thought Glasgow was better than Edinburgh but was too scared to say so :-p

Glencoe is absolutely stunning …

Thank you for liking Glasgow my home town. I moved away down the coast but still go back there most days.

Hello again :039:

Whilst I was in Monkton I was chatting to a Scottish coach driver and he said his wife’s favourite holiday destination was Largs. I never been there … it’s on my “to do” list

VJ I read in the Wales thread that you have recently been to Bute for the weekend … I loved it when I stayed in Rothsay :-). There is a thread on the forum about the asylum seekers who have been given homes on Bute but they are complaining about being in an isolated place …

Dunoon is another lovely place … so nice I’ve been twice  … I love the ferry trip across the Clyde …
