Our online data will always be vulnerable to hacking

[Qantas hit by cyber attack, leaving 6 million customer records at risk of data breach - ABC News]

Seems no matter how much security is provided for our information it will always be breached.

I’ve never considered my details safe on the WWW Bretrick. Unfortunately, in the world we live in now, if you want to exist and function in society, then you must be part of the World Wide Web and be visible to everyone who asks, even those who don’t unfortunately.

Yes. I do my best to limit online financial transactions but there is no getting away from it.

I’m careful about who I buy from. I can manage (just about) without buying anything online. I do trust my bank online as much as the High Street branch, that was.

I don’t like the Idea of using my phone for banking, maybe that will change in future. I mean, it’s no easier than using a card.

I’ve reluctantly come around to the idea of using a banking app on my phone.
It is actually quite handy for certain and rather select transactions. I’m still cautious though…

I confess I haven’t looked into it. I just know I always have my bank card with me but I don’t always have my phone,

After lots of consideration I decided to download my banking app. I’ve used online banking on my laptop for ages but just lately there are so many restrictions and several checks and passwords to persevere with, and they even send a code number to your phone so you can access your account on the laptop.
The app gives an instant update on your account and you can pay bills or move money around with just a six figure passcode…It’s the way to go d00d…

Yep, there’s always some moron who is the weak link in “bulletproof” security.

With credit cards, we’re protected from fraud and theft. With cash, you’re screwed.

I use my credit card for everything and haven’t had any problems. I also buy everything online so I can see people’s ratings for businesses and products, and no matter how hard somebody tries to scam me, they haven’t gotten me yet.

The fact is, there are a lot of a-holes in the world, and you need to protect yourself.

With credit/debit cards there are too many people and establishments involved in transactions, which also leaves a paper trail.
I don’t see how you are screwed by using cash. No personal information changes hands in a transaction and you don’t carry your entire savings around with you, so if you do get robbed, they only get what’s in your wallet. I rarely carry more than £100 and that’s only if I want to fill up my motor with diesel.
I buy very little online, only when I can’t obtain it from other sources. Some specialised Electronic components from a company I’ve been dealing with for years.
Anything I eat or wear will definitely not be bought online… :009:

I refuse to download apps to my phone - in fact I only use it for telephone calls and texts! I do use online banking on my laptop but before going into my account I always run 2 security checks! As for online shopping, I only use well known sites that I have used before. I admit these days when it comes to anything online my default is to be suspicious!

When I access my bank account on my laptop Sheila, I always plug in to an ethernet cable instead of using WiFi… :009:

I only have the equivalent of a flip phone. Not a smart phone. So no chance to download apps.
I do not download apps onto my laptop either.
The one time I did, it sent my lappy haywire. Had to take it to a geek to get it running properly again.
I also do my banking online, with 2 step verification.
In the past, I did transfer money overseas a couple of times. Will not do it in the current climate.
I was looking at a 5.25% term deposit rate with an online only bank. Not prepared to transfer a 6 figure amount so stayed with my bank at 4.25%

If you needed a new TV or couch, would you pay cash for it?

I wouldn’t pay with a card either… :009:
