Our Chippies will soon be closing down

Haddock and chips with mushy’s is just brilliant!
I couldn’t live in a country that doesn’t do fish and chips…

Did you know you can freeze left over chip shop chips? You lay them out in a tray, freeze flat, then store frozen in a bag or container. Reheat them in a hot oven straight from frozen until they’re piping hot and crispy

They come out lovely

I’m not keen on rice and you can’t make a rice butty

As far as I’m concerned, London is the rest of the world because it certainly isn’t British anymore.

Thanks for that, I love trad Brit food and it’s history.

Fish and chips probably evolved from all those sources but it’s definitely ours now!

Yummy :yum:

Brit traditional food, recipes and production are a bit of a hobby horse of mine.

Brits put our cuisine down, we do some amazing things and have some amazing traditional food

I can confirm from recent experience that reheating chips (left over from a takeaway the night before) in a microwave the next day and squirting them with mayo tastes nice, but probably not the ideal texture. lol

Yes, my daughter and I both do this regularly. We reheat in the Ninja air fryer, and they’re perfect.

We do something similar, but as Mr B likes haddock and I like cod, we have a piece of each and one portion of chips to share. We then cut off a large portion of each piece of fish before serving and save it for the following day’s lunch!

Ooh No, don’t think I fancy that idea thanks Maree.
They are usually limp and greasy and perhaps been reheated and kept warm too long already, let alone heating them up yet again. Nah, don’t fancy doing that, but thanks for the idea. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh we have chippies here in London tho the number of shops in on the decrease. Whereas Pie & Mash shop numbers are on the increase.

I was talking about the big fish eating counties, including those not influenced by British Imperialism: Continental Europe, South America & others. The locals like to cook up onion, garlic, tomato, herbs, add uncooked rice then boiling water just enough to get soaked up by the rice, serve with pipping hot fried fish. They also eat baked/bbqd fish with boiled potatoes, but chips aren’t the done thing. Steak & chips, yes. Hmmm maybe it’s a Catholicism.

Finally got round to reading that. Thanks @Percy_Vere .

I just love the potato d00d, however it comes…Boiled, mashed or chipped, I don’t find rice very filling.

I agree Mupsy…reheating lasts nights fish and chip dinner is an awful idea. In fact, reheating anything from yesterday is not my cup of tea at all. Sod the expense…

Why can’t we take all the fish we need from our own waters?
Oh, I forgot. Boris has given them all to ‘our friends’ across the Channel.

@JBR, there might actually be a case for state ownership of some companies after all?

:+1: regarding haddock & chips but I can’t stand mushy peas.

I’ve even eaten f&c in Kuala Lumpur - in the food court on Level 2 under the Petronas Twin Towers.
