October 14th 1066

On October 14th 1066 King Harold Godwinson was defeated by the invading army of William, duke of Normandy, establishing the Normans as rulers of England.

Harold almost certainly did not die due to an arrow in his eye. The Norman (winners,) Song of the Battle of Hastings, say that he is killed by 4 knights & dismembered. Anglo Saxon accounts say it was an arrow to the head.

Harold was our last Anglo Saxon king.

I wonder if he ever said that?

Wonder what form the commemoration will take in 2066, mind you, maybe be not, let the youngsters sort that one out. :grinning: :heavy_check_mark: :biking_man:
