Not really annoying, is it?

Last Saturday, sitting in a food hall eating Lamb Stuffed Paratha.
Guy sits one table away and starts staring at his phone and mumbles, non stop, mumbles, has been doing it for at least 10 minutes now. Just sounds like Mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, up an octave, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM, MUM.

He sounds like a good boy and has phoned his mother.

Perhaps he had a vocal tic - they can be very repetitive and last for ages.
If you found it annoying after just 10 minutes, imagine what it must be like to be him.

One of my neighbours had a vocal tic and she rarely got any respite from it.
It took the form of her putting the tip of her tongue between her teeth and making a slight humming sound, which sounded to me like
“nnnth, nnnth, nnnth, nnnth, nnnth….”
This would go on for hours at a time without stopping.
She didn’t want to do it but she couldn’t stop herself from doing it.
I used to feel very sorry for her. It must have been both embarrassing and exhausting.
