Normandy beaches

Hi, anyone else visited the Normandy beaches ?
My Wife and I spent a week in the region earlier in the year and found it absolutely fascinating, made even more so as my Father landed on the beaches in July '44.
Apart from the history it is such a beautiful unspoilt area. Would thoroughly recommend !

Yes, we visited Normandy for several days on a school journey, back in 73 I think.
One of my most abiding memories as far as the beaches are concerned is managing to squeeze through through some kind of opening and getting down into a bunker of some sort, the bunks were still there and a rotting old mattress I think. Not actually on the beach of course but on the area above.

Maybe schools weren’t so hot on health and safety in those days.

Many of the bunkers and gun emplacements are open to enter, very atmospheric

One of the last places I would go to, not because of the history but because it is a part of France

Ah well, each to their own I suppose

They are absolutely lovely beaches
We have been there several times .

I’ve never been.Put off by the horror that happened there.

I’d love to go there. I believe my great grandfather fought (and died) there so I would like to visit.
