No one has Tomato Sauce on Chicken

There was a programme on UK TV a few days ago about the chicken wars between KFC and Nando’s. Who knew? I thought they were completely different offerings. But Nando’s has gone from 2 restaurants in 1990’s to 475 in the UK and 1,200 worldwide.
Anyway, little takeaway info (see what I did there?) from the programme - their piri-piri sauce now has more sales each year that good old British HP Sauce. Sign of the times.

Isn’t it common place to eat a peanut butter and jelly combination in the USA Pam?
I can remember watching Sesame Street as a small child and they seemed to relish that particular delicacy.

I have to confess I’ve never tried it. Those two look pretty good on it, there’s hope for me yet! :open_mouth:

I must admit I have got into the habit of peanut butter and jam sandwiches - usually Ginger Marmalade but strawberry or plum jam if ginger is not available.

I think it is much better than peanut butter on its own.

I think the ginger marmalade thing could work nicely. I might have to put some on my shopping list for the next trip to Tesco…

Don’t you just love the eclectic posts I make?
Talking about Tomato sauce on chicken leads you to decide to put marmalade on your shopping list. :+1:

Think the worst burger place ever was the British Wimpy Bar, No wonder Maccas took off like a house on fire in the UK

When I was a teenager Wimpy Burgers were just a meat patty in a bun, that was it! no sauce, no lettuce, no onion, no cheese absolutely nothing - to be fair before I went to Australia I thought they were so good too.

To be honest I never thought Maccas would take off in Australia because every corner milkbar made brilliant burgers full of just about everything - unfortunately also beetroot (I never got why beetroot) - fortunately they would also put anything you liked in it and leave out the beetroot.

Alas Maccas did take off and those milkbars, inspite of their better burgers, are no more, I suppose they morphed into coffee bars

Us burger fans owe a lot to the humble Gherkin, what might have been if Wimpy had thought of that.

It’s not something I’d fancy, I believe the jelly is what we call jam.
Do they have jam in USA?
I rarely eat peanut butter, but occasionally have toast and jam.
Who remembers that song? :joy:

Over here jelly is jam without the pips!
As for the song it looks as if Google is going to have to be my friend… again! :open_mouth:

He likes bread and butter
He likes toast and jam
That’s what his baby feeds him on
And he’s her lovin man

The last verse is No more bread and butter No more toast and jam ………Found his baby eating With some other man …

Her lovin’ man has been ditched . Ring any bells? I think it was by The Newbeats,
We used to sing it at nursery, inappropriate really!

what about peanut butter and ketchup in a sandwich?

Yes!!!

I’ve just listened to it on Alexa and added it to my 60’s favourites playlist. It instantly rung bells!
I’m sure the meaning of the lyrics went way above the heads of very small people! :slightly_smiling_face:

Here in the USA, peanut butter and jelly are the first kinds of sandwiches we feed our toddlers! It becomes our comfort food forever more. The jelly is smooth, no lumps or bumps, and the jam is more of the berry or fruit itself.

Most kids like grape jelly to start, and older folks gravitate towards the marmalades, orange or apricot. My personal favorites are blackberry or blueberry jam. When travelling to Maine, I always bring home their local blueberry jam, the best ever!
In the evening, if I want a bite of something easy to fix, it’s my peanut butter and jam sandwich to satisfy my craving. And not one single chillie in sight!

Even I wouldn’t corrupt blueberry jam with Chillies! :slightly_smiling_face::angel:

Chicken Parm - an American invention! Nothing to do with Italy (I was totally unaware of Chicken Parm until recently, cos none of the London Italian places I used to go with my partner or in Naples or Rome did it…unless I guess they deal with American tourists and we would avoid those places!).

But yes, chicken pasta dishes with passata/tomato base are original, and very much exist and are tasty!
