NHS: 6m people on hospital waiting lists in England

This figure is for the end of November and covers operations such as knee and hip surgery. That is before Omicron hit so it is likely these figures will have worsened.

Meanwhile, waits in A&E reached record worst levels in December. Just over 73% of those who arrived at an emergency department were seen in four hours.

Record delays were also seen for those who needed a bed on a ward.

More than 120,000 people who were admitted spent more than four hours waiting for a bed - nearly a third of the total.

Nearly 13,000 waited over 12 hours - another record high since records began in 2010.

Some people think that the COVID “crisis” is over - well, the case numbers may be falling dramatically but the after-effects will last for years and, for the health service, that means patients’ conditions will deteriorate and many will die before their treatment can begin.

Firing 100,000 of them won’t help either.

The NHS is not fit for purpose covid proves it

@Bread , What do you propose we do about it then Bread ??
Donkeyman! :thinking::thinking:

Don’t fire them.

They were perfectly OK dealing with patients up to now unvaccinated.

My region has just been forced to issue warnings due to staff off isolating after testing positive for the new covid strain. I know two of the staff and they do not have any symptoms just a positive test result so under existing legislation have to home isolate for the statutory period and a negative test twice.

@Bread , Oh, l thought you said the NHS was not fit for
purpose ??
I agree not firing them makes sense though !!
Donkeyman! :+1::grin::+1:

It isn’t.

Front line workers aside, it’s badly run, not integrated and wastes way too much money.

It’s also way over regulated and unionised

@Bread , Yes l agree, except maybe the union bit ??
I just wanted to hear your ideas, thanks !!
Donkeyman! :+1::grin::+1:

Well, of 100,000 NHS workers are to be fired, where are the unions ?

@Bread , Obviously they are under unionised then surely ??
Didn’t you say they were over unionised ??
Donkeyman! :+1::thinking::thinking::+1:

100,000 workers will not be fired .
This is misinformation

the NHS is the biggest employer in the UK, there are several unions but even though 100,000 staff will be fired the unions (who are the guardians of workers rights) say nothing and do nothing.

There are around half a million NHS Union members

They won’t do anything because 100,000 staff will not be fired .

Not only did Sajid Javed announce it, you actively support it.

From the Guardian, just for you

They won’t be fired because they will get vaccinated or they will get another job .
They won’t get another job in the private sector because the private sector will not employ the unvaccinated either .
If they want to work with vulnerable people they will get vaccinated if they chose not to they were not the right people anyway .

@Muddy , Of course they won’t be fired, that was just a politician
shooting their mouth off on the spur of the moment !!The Tories
would definitely never get in power again !
Donkeyman! :frowning::frowning:

They won’t be fired. They’ve got until April haven’t they?
By then it will fade into a distant memory for the government will probably have stopped issuing daily figures, declared Covid an epidemic rather than a pandemic and Sunak will be telling us all how he’s going to replenish the Treasury as we should all be back at work.

And the country will rejoice and hold street parties … that will stretch into June for the Queen’s bash.
