All the news is talking about the new (or is it just revised) trade between the UK and the EU. Whatever the details it seems to be about reducing trade obstacles (checks, etc.) and more defense collaboration. This follows a new trade deal with India and possibly (don’t think the details are yet in place) one with the US.
To be fair, Labour did pin its election campaign on growth. So perhaps this new wave of trade deals will help with that. But is it actually about cementing in globalisation?
Globalisation was a one way journey, an inevitability, Deglobalisation is just a pipe dream
I’m curious that there’s been so few comments on this topic. I know such things are not inherently interesting so maybe that is to be expected. But, barely a few years ago and the prospect of new trade deals for the UK were very much front of discussion. Now, even Farage couldn’t be bothered to turn up to the parliament debate on the EU deal.
Seems trade deals are so yesterday.
hopefully it means that they will be able to get young EU citizens to come here and work as carers for 2 years now that they have shut off other international routes
The talks, the agreements, the whole reset-strategy seem a natural thing to do and are apparently met with less resistance than, say, a few years ago since the people in the UK learnt it the hard way that there’s basically no real alternative to trading with the nearest countries on the continent. I won’t witness it any more but I told my children to give me a shout when the UK will have re-established a mutually beneficial relationship and trade agreements again. I was pleased to see that realism prevails again with the British Government seeking European allies to arrange a firm response to the Russian menace. Improving trade relations with Europe seems a natural follow-up.
