Our latest polling shows it’s clear that the public are sick and tired of the grubby spectacle of ex-prime ministers stuffing the House of Lords with their friends, donors and political allies even after they’ve left Downing Street.
As support for this increasingly unjustifiable privilege hits a new low the message is clear: lifetime appointments to make our laws should not be handed out as rewards for loyalty by those in power.
It is time to end this squalid, undemocratic practice and replace the bloated Lords with a smaller elected second chamber where the people of this country, not ex-prime ministers, decide who shapes the laws we all live under.
Are you in the majority opposed to these appointments?
Add your name to our call to end the idea of resignation honours and create an elected second chamber in place of the House of Lords.
Blimey they were complaining about him doing it when he rewarded the Brexiteers a few years ago.And he’s at it again.Packing the place with party loyalists. That’s how democratic the UK is these days.
Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list - after the circumstances which forced him to resign, they shouldn’t be allowed - BJ took the gullible voters for a ride, in my opinion, and any Honours he bestows will likely be to people who scratched his back while he scratched theirs.
As for Liz Truss putting forward any kind of resignation honours list - that is just taking the p…., considering her very brief but disastrous tenure, she should be keeping a low profile, not dishing out any “honours”
These party-political, financially and “favour” motivated Honours recommended by PMs just cheapens the whole Honours System - and folk like Johnson take the nepotism to new heights - it makes me want to abolish the whole shebang.
