I read a chapter or two of a HP story once many years ago and thought it was very poor in all respects.
I could not believe how popular it became and was reminded of the story of ‘The King’s New Clothes’ where no one could say that it was a hoax without suffering the possible consequences of the ridicule and isolation by their peers.
I am still of the opinion that the whole HP bandwagon is a big con and the stories are just badly written rubbish.

OMG - Isn’t she rich enough already? :017:

I disagree Malcolm, but don’t let that bother you!

If you enjoy a good murder/detective yarn you might like to try her series of three books centred around the army veteran detective Cormoran Strike. She writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
The first one is The Cuckoo’s Calling, then comes The Silkworm, and the third is Career of Evil.
They’re all cracking.

I might give them a try thanks …

I thought the Harry Potter phenomenon was brilliant. Rowling single-handedly managed to get a whole generation of youngsters reading for pleasure which is a magnificent achievement in these days of technological frippery and diversions. For me, J.K. Rowling is on the list of excellent writers who get put down by critics and highbrows simply because they are popular - Steven King is the biggest and best example. I’d rather read King and Rowling than the turgid Jane Austen or Tolkien any day of the week.

Thanks ruthio…I’ll look out for 'em

The only thing is Steven King is so frightening .
After reading The Shinning I could barely go upstairs !
And I never think of clowns as anything but sinister .

I agree with you, Malcolm, a load of old codswallop!! Made her a very wealthy woman but tripe, nonetheless. IMO…

I agree with you Malcolm, being a big old kid meself I love most of the big kids stuff and watched many such films with my two grandsons when the were younger, but I could never get to like the Harry Potter stories, hard as I tried.:frowning:

I used to read them to my son at bedtime when he was about 9 or 10,
So I love the harry potter books and films also I met jk at a book signing ( my son couldn’t go for reason that escapes me, ) so I went on my own and got a couple of books signed by her with a message that read, " to Harry’s favorite cousin"( well it helps to have the same last name as the main character)

I have enjoyed all the HP books.

Funny, my granddaughter and I are in the middle of a HP film fest.

Im really happy that it got kids reading. Personally Ive never read one (they dont appeal) and I saw about 20 minutes of the first film before falling asleep.

I remember when the first one came out it was awarded the The Smarties Book Prize for children’s literature.

My daughter bought a copy from Waterstones in Bath when she was about ten with her own pocket money, she was in her oils with it and didn’t come up for air until she finished it.

Each release saw us down at our local Asda’s at midnight so she could get the next installment, happy daze and fond memories of her excitement at getting the new copy.

They aren’t my cup of tea but they’ve brought enormous pleasure to millions of children worldwide (and their parents).

Must admit I enjoyed them, but I don’t see where she can go with a new one as Harry and Co were all grown up and seeing their own children off to Hogworts at the end of the last book. The Dark Lord was destroyed so what else is there?..any ideas?

This new release isn’t a novel per se, it the script/story of the new play that’s opening in London.

I wonder how many years it’ll run for?
