New computer setup

Easy to set up a new computer one would think? yes ? actually no. OK connect up monitor -mouse-keyboard and that is it? NO. provinding windows is already installed .Downloading Google-chrome etc and forgetting passwords is nigh impossible, it took me days to do eventually, going back to old computer for finding out what is needed and having to wait 5 days for confirmaion codes.

That is he easy part .OK start adding web sites and forums. then any banking links and this is where things get hard, trying to sign in means going through 3 links for identification is a pain. try more than a few times and one gets locked out for several days.
then there is adding anti virus programs

oh yes then one forgets to add the printer as I have just remembereds to do. I have a CD with the printer on it .Totally useless the computer doesn’t have a CD drive. so then having to find the printer on line add which windows (ie windows ll 64 bit) to download.

next is storage for photos etc so if not got already a new extrnl storage such as a hdd (hard disk drive) to add to the cost

And how are you doing with all of it?

It may seem like a lot, but I have set up three computers in the last seven years, and it doesn’t seem to be a problem. If you have Google chrome, once that is installed, your bookmarks, saved websites, etc. are already there.
As to the passwords, don’t you have them saved anyway?

I’m not being critical, but you have made my day in that I now seem more tech savvy than ever. Also, what we used to have CDs for the drives of printers and such, now it’s all online to download, including manuals. Just save them to your files, and whenever you need to know how to do something, pull up the PDF document and find the instructions.

Good luck.

I agree it’s a bit of work but it may comfort you a little that it is for everybody. I spotted two things that may have helped you to speed things up a bit. One is a complete data backup on at least one external HDD that would have and will help you to restore data. And the other one is that you may want to use the on-board antivirus app since it’s reportedly sufficient for the average user.

I did have the passwords written down but for some reason or other they were not accepted by google. It kept saying the passwords were altered 16 days earlier. This I did not do.
yesterday I had quick link spaces on the computer on round circles. Without me doing absolutely nothing it all reverted back to how it was originally.

You’ve convinced me … when my little Toshiba still running on Win 7 expires I shall go and live in a cave and let the world move on without me.

Hi

No need for all this drama.

Find a teenager, I use the 16 year old daughter of one of my helpers, wave a £20 note around and bingo, it’s done straight away.

It takes minutes to do and you have to suffer the condescending looks, but well worth the money…

Greetings and a welcome, Charley.
Are you familiar with the Amazing Chinese Trading company “TEMU,”
Which, at its inception, some 2 years ago, proved to be a winner in UK.
Alas, since 4/4/2026 it has done a complete and unexpected somersault.

Hi QuintESensual,

Thank you for your message and the warm welcome. I appreciate it!

Yes, I am familiar with TEMU. I’ve heard quite a bit about it, especially how popular it became in the UK and other markets over the last couple of years. It really seemed to take off quickly.

I’m curious. What exactly happened on 4/4/2026 that made it do a “complete and unexpected somersault”? I’d love to hear more about your experience and what you’ve observed.

As for me, I’m currently helping people with computer setups and system-related things. I enjoy chatting about tech and learning from others’ experiences.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Best,

Charley

Thanks for your response and interest, Charley.
I’m currently having a heads-up with Temu and Trustpilot.

So I’ll pause this until I’m fully familiarised with the Actualities. It’s quite Complex.
Best regards,

No problem at all. I completely understand.

Take your time, and when you’re ready, just let me know. I’m happy to continue the conversation then.

Best of luck with Temu and Trustpilot.

I hope it works out.

Best regards,

Charley
